nissan took all the good things about the old micra and binned them, they kept the bad stuff and added some french electrics and some other equally rubbish french stuff and made a car that is the shadow of its former self.
the old micra was bomb proof as it was simple in every way, the new one is far from it.
from reading on here regularly they seem to have a problem with the timing chain,it becomes loose, engine warning light comes on ecu goes into limp mode and it will cost you best part of £800 in parts alone (possibly the same in labour) to put it right.
i don't mean to scare you but theres no point in saying its a great car just because the ones they made previously were great.
yes, ive heard this. luckily (i hope) mine is the lowest spec (the 's') which means it doesnt have a computer or an intelligent key, which are the things that i read on lemons and peaches(?) which go wrong most on the new micras.
in addition, i am already prepared for the timing chain, as its exactly what happened on my friends car at 60k miles and which her mechanic (and ive read elsewhere) says tends to happen on the new micras at around 60k. i'd would rather get it fixed than trade it in when that happens though (fingers crossed it wont happen)0 -

Spot on, 100% agree.
The old shape Micra was a brilliantly reliable car, the new one is no better than a Renault.0 -
and in fact, if i remember rightly, when i was checking statistics, i think the renault modus was about similar in reliability.
or was that for the note?? my OH has a note0 -
i would imagine it is the cold combined with the fact that i used to drive it hundreds of miles every day whereas now its only used a couple of times a week if that.
Good luck for the next 10 yearsFight Crime : Shoot Back.

[QUOTE.... it has had to be towed to the garage today as the alternator went on it yesterday [/QUOTE]
If your alternator was knackered, why could it still not have been driven to the garage ?0 -
Get the car serviced. By the chap in your other thread.0

We have a 53 plate 1.2 micra and its just hit 100,000 miles. The only thing (apart from wear and tear things) to go wrong with it was the dreaded timing chain slipping at 75k miles. Labour and parts were £700. Really cannot complain in the 5 years we have had it.0

good for you, i also read last night that to try and prevent that on the new styles is to have the oil changed every 6 months instead of yearly0

You should be doing this anyway.
Your car is barely being used and hence should be on a low usage interval plan now. This is especially for the oils etc.0 -

Because alternator belt had snapped as well and mechanic couldn't see one of the pulley's so he was concerned that some of it may have displaced the timing belt and he didn't want to cause a major problem.
Good news is my timing belt is ok, just needs a new tensioner. Alternator and belt being fitted as we speak.0
