I've made about £20 so far this year (1 item) - however I really do need to sort out a spreadsheet to ensure I note the cost of listing and paypal and therefore know the REAL income I have from ebay.
If anyone knows of a ready made spreadsheet link then please don't hesitate to point it out:beer:NR [STRIKE]£5542[/STRIKE]£2771 BC [STRIKE]£7987[/STRIKE]£7700 BC [STRIKE]£3000[/STRIKE]£5100 Cat1 Pd Cat2 Pd Ulstr [STRIKE]£3400[/STRIKE]£3070 TSB [STRIKE]£4851[/STRIKE]£4400 MBNA [STRIKE]£7700[/STRIKE]£3887 NWst [STRIKE]£950[/STRIKE] £700 Hfx [STRIKE]£10097[/STRIKE]£10050 Asda [STRIKE]£398[/STRIKE] £315 HFX1 Pd Hfx2 [STRIKE]£3133[/STRIKE] £3000

So far in the last 3 months I've made £324.84 :j:j:j
All I've done is get rid of lots and lots of pointless "stuff" and apart from the money side of things, it really has taken care of my clutter. Now all I have to do is start on the DVD collection and I'll be off again

I've probably made a few hundred pounds. But what i paid for the items originally would have exceeded this though.
The best thing i sold on ebay was an Airwolf toy helicopter from when i was little. Parents got it for about £5 back in the 80's, i sold it for £90. Had teeth marks from where i had been biting it as a little'un:rotfl:
Always put my old xbox games on after i've completed them aswell, only end up sitting in a draw.
I love ebay, i bought my car off ebay too

I have never sold anything on e-bay ,I tend to buy collectable ceramics.I concentrate on a particular pottery and my best buy was a jug ,paid £360-00 for it around 2yrs ago and had it valued last Autumn at £1,000-00....I would say all of my buys have been profitable(in terms of current value) but I'm yet to sell anything as I'm a collector...:rotfl: In it for the long term.....0

a few hundred over a few months, but my items are mainly low value, all mine secondhand. i find amazon better for books and some dvds/games, as long as you check your price regularly.:money:0

I've made £304.24 in January so far! I joined an ebay challenge on the forum (lots of great people with good advice) I have been selling my old clothes, my sons baby clothes and household items. It's taken up a lot of time but so worth it!! Good luck!! xxSealed pot member #1950 - £44.79

I have been doing some checking and thought it would be good to very briefly clear some things up.
First of all I would like to thank Mrs T. for being more advisory than judgemental than others. People listen to advice that way more.
The rules are if you sell your own used items that were purchased for personal use and then are no longer required the tax man isn't interested. If you sell new items that you have purchased but later on didn't need again is safe to sell on. If you happen to make a profit then so be it.
However if you do make, buy items either used or new with the intention to sell on for a profit you are liable to tax & NI as a self employeed trader.
The NI can be made exempt if your secondary earnings ie you already pay NI in a job and you take less than approx £6000 a year from your trade ,but you must apply for that upfront. Tax wise your usual tax code rules apply. Most people have a tax code of 647L which entitles you to earn £6479 per year tax free. If your combined earnings are over this your eligible to pay tax. Bearing in mind the taxable earnings are anything over the 'stock' cost of an item, postage and fees. Other costs can be attributed to reducing you tax eligibility dependant on the setup.
Whilst this is far from a comprehensive guide it gives people an idea.
For the record I have started to register for self employeed and self assessment. I aim to consistently make extra cash over the year and will do it correctly after all I can then constructively advise people of my experiences.
