Ryanair cabin baggage depth

Ive just flown back today with Ryanair from Alicante. Nobody weighed anything. On the way out from Prestwick some were weighed and checked only when boarding. Now this I find quite disturbing as you would miss your flight as you would have had to go away back through security and check the bag in an of course the check in closes 30 mins before departure which means a missed flight. They were more interested in the weight. So try to get it right first time.
Another point as well. people were complaing about Ryanair scales at Gatwick Airport luggage check in being 1k out. A couple I know had weighed there cases at home and weighed them on another airlines scales at the airport just to double check before they checked in. Both cases weighed 15k, the same as there scales at home but when put on Ryanair scales they weighed 16k. Ryanair were wanting to charge them but they kicked up a fuss and eventually they rellented and let them through when they were weighed again on other scales. other passengers had been complaining as well.0 -

If they decide your bag is too big/ overweight on boarding, they charge you at the gate & take put the case in the hold from there.
You don't have to go back through security.0 -
You will struggle to find a bag or case that is the right dimensions to maximise what you can take on board
The Medium Flylite Foldaway Bag from here is about the closest I have found - http://www.flylite.uk.com/Lightweight-Luggage-Solutions.aspx
Not as cheap as some of the cheap suitcases from Argos etc, but it does fit within Ryanair's size limit, and its light weight does mean that you can maximise your 10kg allowance.
One thing to keep in mind though is that it isn't a pull-along suitcase like most people are used to, and actually having to carry 10kg for a lengthy walk through airport terminals might not be OK for everyone.0 -
There's always one isn't there?
They used to say "Embassy" on the side of buses, but they didn't sell them
If you bought a tin that said "Ronseal" on the side, what would you expect to find in it?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

We bought one of these last year, it is far more roomy than I imagined. This year flylite has introduced a medium foldaway wheeled cabin holdall which measures 55x40x20 and weighs less than 1.4kg.0 -

Obviously my statement was too hard for you to comprehend so let me spell it out: Just because something is written down doesn't mean its true.
Thanks for playing.0 -
Just bought a purple/ white / white/black wheeled suitcase from Poundstretcher which I reckon is just under the Ryanair etc measurements. It was marked £17.99, but went through the till at £9.99. (And it expands, so if I do ever expand it and check it in, I'll certainly see it coming down the conveyor belt !)Hope is not a strategy.0

silentjay, unless your bag is way over in some other dimension or is made of totally inflexible titanium alloy you have nothing to worry about. 1 cm is less than the thickness of my little finger, and it is at one end only. No way are they going to argue the toss over 1 cm at one end only unless you invite them to when you hand over your passport e.g.
"Sorry but I bought this bag especially because people said it was ok for Ryanair but actually it is 1cm too deep ... will it be ok?"
"Er No Madam, £35 please."
I can tell you it will easily fit in the Ryanair cages they have at all their airports. However, if they put it in one of their more recent cardboard boxes and point to some anomaly, jump on it and ask them to look again. It is not part of your travel contract to indulge in silly games with cardboard boxes just before you board an aeroplane.
Take no notice of PBS - she is just a contrary girl with some kind of bent on herding sheep on behalf of the low-cost industry.0
