Anybody picking up a brand new car today?

What a performance! After waiting 3 months I was due to pick up my new car today, BUT, when I arrived there is a problem with the tax, and the DVLA site is down so cannot process any new car road tax applications.
So after getting all emotional about leaving my trusted old car to be scapped I had to come back home in it.
What a let down!

I'd prefer to pick up a new car when the weather isn't so bad.0

Well so would I, but who knows when that might be?
I would have thought there would be a back up process, for these rare occasions, but seemingly not, and apparently anybody who is due to get a new car today will be affected!0 -
I don't think there's much the dealer could do if the problem is at the DVLA's side. Whenever I've picked up a new car I've always rang ahead on the day to find out exactly when the car will be ready and to confirm that everything such as road tax has been completed. Its always a good idea to give them a time of your arrival so the dealer can get the car all prep'd and ready for you.0

I'm going to bet the dealer just hasnt got their side of it ready in time.
Did you actually inspect this so called DVLA error? or just get told of it?
They have probably dinged the car whilst preparing it....0 -
It does seem strange that the car dealer didn't bother to ring you when they knew it wouldn't be ready today.0

Was it a fiat or alfa dealer by any chance?0

Tell him you'll keep your car until 1 Feb to get an extra month VED....;)

Update..
The DVLA really have been having problems today, but have now been resolved.
so, I got my car after all, but in the dark and the snow!
It's an Hyundai, by the way, and for once I do believe the dealer, he did phone the DVLA while I was there.
I actually got to sit in and play with car earlier, so it was there waiting for the tax disc!0 -

I took delivery of a new passat on 5th Jan that had been sitting cosily in the dealers showroom all through december.
Nurse it like a baby the whole way home in the snow, then drove it the minimum possible at ultra safe speeds.
When 4 days old and 100 miles on it, my next door neighbours daughter reversed her dads works van into the side of it and cost £950 of damage.. :mad:0
