Tesco St Helens disgraceful customer attitude

I have just discovered the delights of shopping at Asda St Helens and will now be doing so from now on.

The recent weather was unprecedented I know, but the lack of help and thought and care shown by the staff and management to people struggling with shopping trolleys at Tesco St Helens in Merseyside is an absolute disgrace.

How can a huge corporation like Tesco not be able to afford to at least hire a JCB to attempt to clear the car park of the compacted snow and ice to help customers shop there? Are they so arrogant and big headed that they think people will just keep going there? Not even any salt or grit is visible.

The car park is full of bumps and dips where snow has compacted into treacherous ice, cars are slipping and sliding everywhere, it is impossible to push a trolley of shopping across the car park, that is if you are lucky enugh to make it to the store entrance without falling or being run over by out of control vehicles.

There are no staff around to be seen when you need help dragging the trolley to the car, no one at the entrance or on the car park. Mind you they can't even be bothered to clear up the trolleys that are left hanging out of the trolley stations all over the car park, so bad, that if you park near one, there's a good chance you can't even get your car out when you come back to it.

Compare all this to Asda St Helens :T , the whole car park has been cleared completely, easy to drive in, park and walk to the store entrance, all the solidified snow and ice has been gathered into huge mountains and left to melt around the carpark where it can cause no danger. Plenty of staff in the car park and at the entrance to give you a hand if you need it, nothing is too much trouble.

Gold Star to you Asda St Helens :A , excellent customer service, friendly staff, and absolute pleasure... you've just won yourself another regular customer !!

End of rant !!

Complete oppersite around here. Tesco had attempted to clear the carpark and did quite a good job of it. Asda on the other hand had done absolutely nothing.

I must check Asda's shares for the next 12 months, I'm sure they will no doubt have skyrocketed by your actions.

The stock exchange have been alerted to DSMIFFY's devastating blow to Tesco.

Conversley, I expect Tesco to teeter on the brink of insolvency as a result, so would advise shareholders to quickly switch their shareholding to Asda with immediate effect.

Ha ha, that's a brilliant idea whitegoods engineer, I will buy shares in Asda and join the "turn £100 into £10,000 for 2010" thread and sit back and watch the money roll in.

Nothing can stop the power of the harrassed St Helens shopper.... hear me roar !!!

Its always great when people say "Why can't big companies do this?" Well have they ever thought that a lot of other places were maybe using the JCBs etc? Do you not realise that they don't just keep one parked in the yard in case it snows? Loads of places needed their carpark cleared, it may just have been that the guy in Asda got on the phone a bit quicker than the guy in Tesco.

We had 3 digger tractors going round our Tesco car park at once! The were going everywhere. They looked like they were dancing. Didn't fancy parking anywhere because they were going in and out between the cars.

I know they were doing their job but it looked frightening. I wouldn't even have fancied walking across the car park with 3 of them there, and the car park was quite busy too.

i can't believe tesco let it snow on their carpark. why didn't they get all the staff outside with umbrellas, and prevent the snow from hitting the ground in the first place..

short sighted tesco, terrible customer service...

Our local Asda carpark could have hosted Dancing On Ice for pretty much a week, but Tesco seem to have cleared their car-park as much as they could, same with Morrisons.

Aye, round here the Tesco and Homebase carpark were very clear, the Aldi's was ok, and Morrisons largely clear.
However 3 of those are opposite a builders yard which always has diggers etc, and I suspect called them in ;) (or had an existing agreement).

Clearing the snow from a carpark for a supermarket is something that either requires fairly expensive, specialised equipment (and staff with the right training/licences/insurance), or a lot of manpower, shovels and time, so the practical solution is for them to try and get an outside company in, however when it's bad those outside companies are likely to get rather a lot of business, and do it on a first come, first served basis unless there is an existing arrangement in place.

Our local Tesco's car park is fairly clear, you can see where people were parked when the clearing has happened. The next car park is one shared by Next, Argos, ASDA home, PC World etc and is a nightmare. Suppose it depends on what each store owner or manager, depending on who has control, is willing to pay for them clearing. Also there is a shortage of grit etc, just ask the councils.
