I don't know if its already been posted but my local council gym ( Halo Hereford) offers 60% discount for working tax and child tax recipients and all other concessions, works out at £2.50 a go or sub £20 a month can use all the Halo centers in the county, gyms, baths etc.
I would have thought other council gyms would also offer concessions ??0 -
This is a brand new gym that has just opened in Watford!!
Its called Pump Gyms and is the first one to open by the looks of it?
My monthy membership is £10.99 and its has NO contract, I couldnt believe it!
The place is open 24/7, was even open all through Xmas and New Year and has free parking which my old gym did not have.
Has about 20 classes a week which are all included in the price too!
:j
the website is pump gyms .com if you want to look??0 -
Try Gym4All gyms, they are very good and cheap, various locations, see here www(dot)gym4all(dot)com [I'm not allowed to post links as a new person on this forum) or just Google gym4all0

Hi all,
I agree with everything in this article from contract terms to chain gyms giving you banter to get you to sign up or even about cheap gyms like EasyGym however:
This is not just about ACCESS to the gym, that is the most important thing to consider when joining ANY gym: What are you actually getting for your money?
Cheap gyms like the FitSpace or EasyGym, great if you just want a gym but you get NO service, NO guidance and the pleasure of being around people that honestly I would want to be exercising with
Chain gyms like Virgin Active, LA Fitness or Fitness First, quite often they will have anything from reasonable facility to really beautiful clubs with fantastic equipment, but they charge you a lot for it, they have staff members that earn so little that they have no interest in making your experience positive and although you have receptionists and fitness instructors, you won't get any personal attention and you may as well be at a cheap gym.
The key is to find your local gym, one that isn't a chain or a budget gym, one that has the owner in it! Not in America or Spain.
My gym has a short contract period of 3 months and an averagely priced membership fee but tries to give as much service to our members as 1. We really do care and 2. If we don't our members will leave and we can't afford to have that happen!
I hope that people won't read this as an advert although I am writing as someone who run a gym, but chooses to seek out their local facility, wherever that may be, that isn't council, isn't chain and isn't budget where, if they are serious about making a change in their life, they will genuinely find some people that care and will offer the support they need to make that happen.

Hello folks,
Does anyone have any good tips for haggling with Nuffield? I'm going to try out my local branch (Wandsworth) this weekend, and while I know someone at a different branch already so might be able to get a referral deal, I'd be grateful for any advice!
I'm naively hoping for less than £50 per month, peak and off peak, and ideally valid in multiple branches... :rotfl:
Thanks!

I've never tried haggling with them, they did have prices around £80 a month in Central London and that was 2 years ago (I got a free trial and they were boasting in emails about how fantastic it was "for only £79 a month!") I don't know if they have the option of only outter London clubs but I'd say your going to nee a few very good tricks and perhaps know people on the inside to get it as low as £50- but they may well have changed their prices since, doesn't hurt to ask.0 -
Hi
Anyone know if David Lloyd will budge on prices at all? I'm looking to join my local one (outside london) for 6 months. The only offer they give is 71 pounds a month. I'd like to get at least a tenner off that!!.

I only pay £46 a month at nuffield health but I get it cheaper because I get 20% off where I work
My local councill gym charges £31 a month or £25 a year membership fee then £5.50 per session pay as you go but at nuffield health you don't get all the kids messing arround like you get in my local councill pool you cant move for kids getting in the way you don't get the steam room sauna or spa and the changing rooms not ther best and nuffield health you can swin without people getting in your way0 -
My dad who works for nuffield health says they have taken over greens health and fitness so in Leicester we will have 2 nuffield health and fitness centres0
