I was going to say defo go for a hearing test but have just read your last reply. My son is 2 years 8 months and his speech is behind his peers as were all his other milestones. I took him for a hearing test to rule out this a being a problem but was certain that his hearing was fine. He seemed to understand things ok and responded appropriatly, I was therefore very shocked to find that he has glue ear in both ears and his hearing was quite significantly down. He is now on a waiting list for grommets. He also sees a speech therapist. You can self refer to a speech therapist just find their number and ring them up. If there is nothing wrong then you have lost nothing but is there is a problem then you do not want to wait. I would not me fobbed off with waiting until your lo is 3 as you may be losing precious time. If you feel that your lo is trying to talk but struggling then I really think you should push this with the hv/speech therapist.0

My son also did not talk at all until he was over 3. He went for speech therapy from about 2 and she thought he suffered from Verbal Dyspraxia. She taught him each sound separately and showed me how to teach him the sounds which was quite different from teaching sounds when learning to read. Very, very slowly the sounds came. he continued with Speech therapy until he was 6. He's 16 now and has no problem talking,( although he prefers to grunt some of the time!) I would say fight for access to speech therapy as soon as possible.0
