Yeah, the ifart lol.. who has the time or inclination for pointless apps? I rarely use wi-fi on my X even, although a firmware upgrade supposedly improves the browser.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

do people really & truly use the internet on ipod touches, iphones etc?
I use the internet all the time on my iPod Touch. It works brilliantly.how many of those apps are duplicates, & advertising/promo items from big business, & fart apps etc etc etc
A quick search of the app store shows that 408 of the 100,000+ apps are fart apps, or 0.4%.0 -
could do all that on a netbook

I do - all the time... if fact this reply is done via my touch. I use the email and calendars that sync to my online accounts. I use a number of apps that provide specific access to their websites.. such as sky news, ebay, facebook, amazon etc. but with the safari browser i can use it to surf vanilla sites...
It is an entertainment device and a tool. Its perfect for surfing in bed, or in front of the tv etc (which you can do with a netbook, but this is much less bulky and always with me). I also use my mobile phone as a wireless repeater so I can also surf on the train / in hotels etc.2014 running challenge 471.95 km / 1000 km.0 -

Some of those things she can do on her phone but I'm certainly not buying her a smartphone capable of all that.
If all she had wanted was something to play music I'd have got her a Sansa Fuze as they have excellent sound quality and are a lot cheaper but for her the iPod is perfect.

But why get a netbook? Hardly ideal as an MP3 player is it and can you get a decent one for £150?

Yes it works well, especially for things like YouTube.
i note that youve said she uses it to get on the internet 'when the PC is in use' which means its not the usual way of getting access
Did I ever claim it was, and what difference does that make anyway? She could use the Wii as well if she wanted but if she's up in her room listening to music or reading and wants to check something quickly she's got access via her iPod.

I appreciate the point, but with over 100,000 apps available (and a projected 300,000 by the end of the year), I think it's a bit much for anyone to take Apple to task for what you can do with an iPod Touch.
It maybe be a walled garden, but it's a bloody big one.

the OP needs to decide what is the priority:
playing music or using the internet
What if palying music and internet use are equal priority? I'm no fan of Apple of but the iPod Touch is an excellent bit of kit. Yes it has limitations but therre are few things that are perfect. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
