Post of the Month July

Probably because the "several points" are Martin's idea of what makes the Post or Poster of the Month and if the "several points" were known you might end up with a situation where people based their posts and nominations on a known criteria.
The "several points" too are bound to change month by month due to the various threads/posters that are nominated.
However... you can always post on this thread where Martin mentioned changing the Post of the Month0 -
Thank you again.
I've now read the thread. It does not fill me with hope, but then I've no good ideas myself either!!
Of course, Jules-2005 had many nominations for July, and her "thanks" tally is remarkable. She clearly knows that her efforts have been appreciated by many.
However the task of selection is organised, it must be a daunting task, and I certainly wouldn't like to have to make the decision!
It would be impossible for any one person to read every post, so some form of shortlisting is inevitable. I still support the idea of nominations for ordinary members, as now.
I also realise that certain kinds of post, particularly those to do with personal entitlements to benefit, say, may be of huge importance, but to just one or two people.
To try to compare such diverse posts in terms of money-saving or helpfulness, or value to one or more members, or effort made by the poster(s), etc., is pretty well impossible, I should think.
On that basis, maybe the concept of a POTM should be abandoned, and perhaps the money donated to one of MSE's charities instead. Or perhaps a POTM could be chosen, but the poster doesn't receive the money personally, instead choosing a charity to benefit from the award.
I confess that these are thoughts as they occur rather than a well-considered proposal! Apologies for that.I'm not just talking about my wife, I'm talking about my LIFE, and I'm not just talking about MY life, I'm talking about everybody's life. I'm talking about form. I'm talking about content, I'm talking about interrelationships. I'm talking about God, the devil, Heaven, Hell. Do you understand...FINALLY?0 -

Its always worth remembering though that twice as many people view the forums as join up as members so very often that one post that may appear to only help a couple of people will often ripple out through guests to help other people and thats the wonderful thing about MSE
On several occasions the poster who has won POTM have donated their £50 to charity as is their individual choice.
Just trying to point out why its maybe not the most obvious choice due to the number of nominations. Your suggestions and input would be welcome on Martin's thread though no matter how old the thread is but I would still say, personally, that if its not broke...0 -
Instead of a post of the month. How about a poster of the month award. Their are numerous people on this site who give sound advice month in an month out on their special interests, who although they might not make one outstanding post benefit hundreds of moneysavers.:cool:0

Sounds sensible to me!I'm not just talking about my wife, I'm talking about my LIFE, and I'm not just talking about MY life, I'm talking about everybody's life. I'm talking about form. I'm talking about content, I'm talking about interrelationships. I'm talking about God, the devil, Heaven, Hell. Do you understand...FINALLY?0

If you look at the Roll of Honour you'll find that its probably about 50/50 between a post of the month and a poster(s) of the month0 -
So where does that leave us?I'm not just talking about my wife, I'm talking about my LIFE, and I'm not just talking about MY life, I'm talking about everybody's life. I'm talking about form. If its not broke....;)
Tell you what OneFlewOver, I sneaked a wee look at your posts this morning and they are all in the Pigsback thread. Will you do something for me today and have a look across all the boards of MSE, check out Martin's articles and the resultant discussion threads and help given daily by users as said by mobilegossip, and then have another think about the POTM
We as users are not voting for the POTM but nominating a post/poster. Now this nomination can be one, very personal post to one user or it could be a raft of nominations from different users, each one very much has its merit and earns its place in the POTM nominations.0 -
No disrespect intended to anyone involved choosing the award, but there is no point in a forum thread asking for nominations for a post of the month award where the democratic winner is not elected.
A poster of the month award seems the best option all around.0 -
