Advise on council tax benefits

Hi,

I wonder if you can help me. I've filled in loads of online checkers and they recon I should not be paying any council tax. I'm just about get my forms together but I just wanted to see whether you guys think that I would be successful.

I work 37+ hours a week, my better half works 24hour a week. We have 1 kid aged 2. We have a little savings £1000 for emerengies. This month we paid our last coucil tax monies for this Financial year (10 months Direct debit). We are receiving child benefits and a small amount of Child tax credits(about £40 a month). My wife also receives a bonus once a year about £700 though this is not guarenteed. We have a morgage.

Do you think our savings/bonus etc would affect the application?

How much do you & your partner earn? From what you've said, it doesn't sound likely.

    Not a chance.

If you are getting basic child tax credits of £40pm or so, you're income is way too high.

Put it this way, my younger brother earns £18k, his partner is at college and not earning and they pay full council tax.

I suspect your income is way over £18k
  • I earn about £27k and my wife earn £11k.

Why do these sites say I would be entitled to full council tax benefit. one said specificall beacuse of the child tax credit of £40.

    I found this really strange

I would imagine your local council office laughing you off the phone with these figures, but give it a go if you believe that a £38k income will make you exempt from council tax.

Without sounding rude, you are probably entering some details in wrongly. If you can provide the links to these calculators, I can try inputting £38k earnings into it, to see if its just a computer glitch.

you earn 38k and your expecting council tax to be paid for you???
  • No, I'm not expecting council tax to be paid for me. Its just that I did the 5min benefits check-up and some other sites and they recon I should not be paying council tax based on the child tax credits i get which seems really strange. I suppose even if it was just a percentage it would be better than nothing.

Iused entitled to and another directgov website
    CT: 1139
    hours: 30+ and 16-29
childcare costs :£81 (paid using childcare vouchers)
    age : 26 and 36
    salary before tax : £24019 and £12405

I've just done it again on entitled to and recons "You should not have to pay Council Tax as you qualify for full Council Tax Benefit. Our calculation is based on you receiving £10.50 from child tax credit"
