BISL and Equity Red Star, great companies...not

BISL - avoid like the plague.

ERS - hit and miss. If you are fortunate enough to have purchased the policy via one of their big supporting brokers who also deal with commercial/fleet insurance you will actually get a good service. If you are with them through one of the cheap and cheerful mass-market brokers you probably won't.

Reminds me of the time I had to insure my first car ( a 181 Mitsubushi Colt Galant 1.6 saloon), it cost £345 fully comp through the Co-Op (including a 25% discount as my dad had a policy with them as well). Now my son is about to turn 17 and wants to learn to drive. He is in for one hell of a shock when it comes to insuring his first wreck.
