As said you resolution is now too low.

I have done 2 photos for passports at home now (I know you dont need passport quality) I use the passport option from photo box http://www.photobox.co.uk/content/prices-and-services

you get 8 on a sheet. its is expensive(£1.05) when compared with a single 6x4 for10p but still cheeper than the local pharmacy.

Thank you, this may be the easiest way to go. Does anyone know whether the bad resolution which my photo seems to be will matter when using a site like this please?

An image of 85 x 113 pixels is useless. Go back to your original image and crop it to the correct aspect ratio and then resize to 35mm x 45mm.

Approximately what would be the correct aspect ratio please?

An image with a resolution of 85 x 113 pixels should be deleted as it works out at approx 25 dpi at 35mm x 45mm. You didn't take a picture at this low resolution so use your original picture and crop and resize again.

    35/45 = 0.778

  • Easiest way to make passport photos at home is: Position subject against a white wall or background, take a top half shot with your digital camera. Download pic to computer, load your photo editing software (eg Picassa, free from Google). Crop pic to head and shoulders and save to a folder. Pull up Microsoft Word, click "Insert" tab, find your saved pic, and insert it into a blank document. When it is there, right click on pic, you will see "Size", adjust size to 45mm x 35mm. If you need to adjust the ratio, stay in Word and move the angles to alter. Resize again until you are happy with the result. Right click, "Copy" and paste 3 times. You now should have 4 passport size photos in a strip. Put in a sheet of photo paper in your printer and print out. I find this easier than any "free" (which aint) software. Cheers, Swainy

A white background isn't acceptable for passport photo's.;)
  • A white wall as a background doesnt reproduce white when camera is set on a normal setting. Usually its very difficult to reproduce white without altering the ISO or exposure settings, and bracketing several shots to get near a white result.
Try it out and you will see. It doesnt cost anything! Cheers, Swainy.

No idea what software you have on your comp, but try installing Gimp.
Then follow instructions at http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11503.html. Note you will change the size to 35x45mm for a passport sized photograph. The pixel dimensions will stay the same (which will keep the quality you need, whilst changing the image size).

Edit: read the rest of the topic, I don't think I'm helping since the resolution appears too low.
Edit2: the above should help if there is an original with higher resolution as per expresso's posts.
