Just because you are on tax credits doesnt mean that you get 'exemption', i fear a lot of people think this and will therefore get prosecuted if there claims are ever investigated.

ring your local pct and see if you can get on the waiting list somewhere

oh I am on waiting lists, but that doesnt get me treatment :(

The joke is I have a dentist across the road from my house. I did get to the top of the waiting list and in 6 months ago, but the day I was due to go in my health was particurly bad (have other health problems) and it took me 10 minutes to cross the road and get there, I was 4 minutes late.

My punishment for been 4 minutes late was, appointment cancelled and lost my place at the surgery so went back to bottom of waiting list which I found shockingly harsh. The women wouldnt change her mind basically saying tough luck.

how would being on a waiting list get you treatment?

and unfortunately, if any of our new patients are late/miss the appointment/canel on the day then we dont see them again either. for a start if you see everyone thats four or five minutes late then you'd be there all night - not to mention all the complaints we'd get for running late!

plus, from the surgerys point of view if you cant make the first appointment on time then it doesnt bode well for the future.

i know it seems harsh but as you know yourself there are A LOT of people waiting for appointments.

i cant speak for the receptionist at your surgery but the dentist at mine doesnt want us to keep asking her if she'll give them 'one last chance', so we have to go by her rules and that is the way it is since it is her nhs list. chances are, the receptionist was just doing her job, she has no reason herself, personally to refuse you another appointmetn - it doesnt make a difference who your dentist will/wont treat to her.

I think I am one of those people :o Ive been to the dentist this morning,it is this that has brought it to mind. I have an old NHS exemption card in my purse that hasn't been re issued and untill now I didn't think anything of it. I didn't realise that if you qualify for free NHS treatment, they automatically send the cards to you..I thought I had to ask them to replace the expired card. I just havn't got round to doing so, on the few occasions since the card expired Ive had a doctors perscription or had a dental check up Ive just ticked the box to say Im exempt from payment and the receptionist has said don't worry you havn't got your card with you, just show it to us on your next visit. So they havn't replaced my card- does this mean I am not exempt anymore?? Im really worried now that they'll think Ive been lying intentionally when I havn't!!

There's a chart here that will help you see if you're entitled to an exemption certificate or not. If you are, then I'd chase up a new card. If not, then best not claim you have one any more.

Thanks for that,Ive looked at the chart and it seems that I no longer qualify for free treatment :o What will happen to me now then, will they prosecute? Since my old exemption card expired Ive had about 4 dental check ups and possibly 3 doctors perscriptions. I bet Im not the only one to wrongly assume that because I recieve CTC that Im exempt from payment but I feel so stupid but I honestly had no idea! Im due to have a tooth out in 2 weeks time and on the forms Ive filled in today at the dentist I ticked the exempt from payment box (because I thought I was!!!) When I actually go to have it done, when I tell them I got it wrong and Im not exempt, what will they do..look into it? Omg Im such a worrier.

It is indeed harsh lets put the shoe on the other foot.

90% of the time I see a doctor they are late, would you think its harsh if they got the sack for been late just once? if that were the case every GP would be unemployed by now.

If someone is consistently late I understand but lets be realistic here. Also bear in mind I was waiting for TWO YEARS, and I guess I will now be waiting another two years.
