Just called me on my mobile. He said he was from Orange mobile, and asked me what network I was on. Can't find any trace of the number on the web but have logged it on www.whocallsme.com

I'm on Orange so you'd have thought he wouldn't have to ask?

If it's Orange it'll come up with an 07973 or 0870 number calling. The only team that does it is the Pro-Active Retentions if your in the last month of your contract or so, unless there was a problem with your account.

Sounds like a third party dealer to me trying to get you to get a new contract.

Thanks for that. My phone is an Orange PAYG so it definitely sounds like a third party dealer lying to me. He said he had some good deals. I bet they aren't as good as the deals you negotiate? ;)

Not at all, you always get a better deal if you call up and ask for a PAC code on PAYG, I've seen people be given free phones just to stay on Orange PAYG!

On that website it says the people who call say they are Orange but theres no proof of that. Theres no call centre we have in Manchester either and we don't have any outsourcing centres either. So it looks kinda dodgy to me!

Orange use from memory 07973 100 *** (*** is the extension code and they only ever ring from 194 and text from 620) or 08000 for upgrades. Manchesters contact centre being on Exchange Quay starts 0161 9 (Building 5 floor 4 Just below Barclays Manchester contact centre)

As others say I'd reckon its a 3rd party dealer

I do stand to be corrected of course, however we don't have an outbound department based in Manchester. It's in Newcastle or Darlington.

Third party dealers are notorious for calling and saying they are calling from 'Orange Mobile' or 'On behalf of Orange'. It makes my life a lot harder when people think they've actually upgraded or taken their contract out with Orange and it ends up being some company at the other end of the country!

That happened to me (abliet with T-mobile) and I only found out near the end of the call when they confirmed all was set up and that they'd taken a £25 deposit - GRRRR
I was NOT a happy bunny at being so easily scammed.
