Hi,
I have a really bad problem with damp in my porch, this has been at its worst this winter with the weather we have had!
The porch is only 1 brick thick, has 2 double glazed windows and has no heating, I do try to open the windows as often as possible, hard when it is so cold! The condensation in there is really bad, I have mould all spreading from the windows and it is also on the ceiling. I've cleaned this off many times but it is back with avengence now!
I really dont have any spare cash to do anything radical and wondered if there was anything at all I could do to stop this, it looks awful. I've painted in there once, not that you can tell. I was going to buy some of this anti mould paint but really dont have the first clue - can someone please help! Thanks0 -
Hi there Gem Gem,
If it is a council flat they have a duty to keep the flat habitable. Go to your local CAB or a solicitor (you may qualify for legal aid) & get them to threaten to sue for "disrepair".
The COuncil will be round quicker than you can blink!

If you're having a problem with condensation and/or damp in a rented property, whether it's a housing association or a private rent, then consider contacting your local Environmental Health Department and asking for their advice.
The Scottish Executive have produced a useful guide which can be accessed here

My property is owned, the porch is an extension, this was already on when I moved in.0

If the council won't help, take it to your MP, he should get them to move.0 -
Gemgem - phone the estate manager who has responsibility for your blocke of flats, explain the mould/damp is horrific and they really need to make an inspection visit. It helps if you cry a bit. Which you may feel like doing, I would.
Remember, part of your rent covers repairs/maintenance......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Hi Gemgem,I had my old crittal windows replaced four years ago with double glazing, since then I've been fighting with mould above and below the window frames in two front bedrooms and the smaller room that is on the corner of the house, anything left in the wardrobe smelt musty and horrible. I called the window fitters back after two years and they said I should leave the windows ajar if only for a couple of hours a day. That helped a littlebut not much. I now use betterware hanging moisture control in the wardrobr which has made a great deal of difference- no smelling clothes, and their moisture trap box on the window seals. Mould is still a bit of a problem at the moment but keep washing down with bleach, until I decorate later this year I hope.0

hi ya yh we have the same problem in our council flat but i live on ground floor we have mould and damp in every room other than our kitchen. our bedroom and kids room is really bad:mad: i know how u feel cos I'm really house proud too and when u get this sort of problem it makes u so depressed and upset.
i have tried the salt, humidifier, wiping windows, airing the flat everything, the council even put cameras in to the out side walls to see what the problem is.... they didn't know what and why we had so much dampness in the flat so in the summer last yr they built a vent thing that blows air in to our home this supposed to work in 90% of cases with mould and damp but since having a bad winter it is coming bk again i have tried every thing possible and nothing seems to work, my little boy has asthma as well and both my kids r always coughing and being rushed in to hospital.
i am now fighting the council to move us out of this flat as we cant take any more excuses and they seem like they don't want to help us but if this was there families and home they wouldn't stand for it.
we shouldn't have to live like this i suggest that u do the same thing and see what happens gd luck0
