:hello:
I am in the same boat - have been charged minute for calls of less that 10 seconds and as a result am over my 300 minute allowance! I am on a 30 day rolling contract and will be cancelling as soon as I find a suitable per second billing package!
I wasn't too bothered about losing the rollover minutes as I never used them up anyway so thought would not really matter but this is taking the proverbial! I had a bill of 29 pounds last month as I didn't realise I was over my '300 minutes' allowance for 2 days!
I shot off a complaint email to Virgin and they responded very quickly with a phone call to apologise that it was not working for me but there is nothing they can do about it so agreed that best thing for me was to take my business elsewhere! :rotfl:
Anyone know of any good deals?

Well let us all know when you find one because Virgin was about the last to start doing this.0 -

thats what the guy at virgin told me...
but then other people on here are sayign orange and 02 are per second billing?!
even if this is the terms and conditions its still dodgy becuase the are advertising the package as 300 minutes, so this is exactly what we should get, but we arent getting 300 full minutes....
a minute is a minute no matter what they say, no terms and conditions or laws can change the fact that minute lasts for 60 seconds!!0 -

I completely agree that what they`ve done is crap.
I was contacted by email last Sept by Virgin and told this was going to happen, and because it was a change to my T&C,I could have cancelled with no penalty.
Having searched around I was unable to find a deal anywhere as good as what I`m on,despite the full minute charge.
They all do it and Virgin was the last.
If "others" on here know of a better deal and one that charges for per second for calls, lets here about it.

thanks mate
i guess you have been around to all the different providers already and asked?
i will go 2mrw as the snow has finally cleared up, but if you've already tried im not holding out much hope.
im going to send this thread to martin or one of the board guides and see what they think, but i guess they told us about it (apparently they sent me a letter), so nothing we can do....
still false advertising though so im hoping to get some money back by using that arguement.....0 -

I believe O2 and Vodafone still charge per second on contracts. Certainly O2 do. Vodafone say I have used 63 mins 7 seconds and seem to round it down to 63 mins on my text advice of my usage.0 -
It's only the first minute of each call that is charged at a full minute. if you made a 1 min 30 sec call that's what you'd be charged for.
You could try cutting down on the number of calls lasting less than a minute. Either hang up before their voicemail kicks in or leave a voicemail and make most of the minute.
It is correct that Virgin were one of the last companies to introduce first minute billing and everyone on contract and SIM only were advised of this between July and September and given the option of extra minutes or cancelling their contract (which I did resulting in a Nokia 5800 I'd only paid £22 towards).
The 01225 number is the reception at the Trowbridge call centre. They don't answer queries and will just pass you through to the regular queue. It doesn't matter which number you call it will be pot luck whether you get through to Trowbridge, J'burg or Manila. If you are calling to cancel, ask for the Saves or Retentions team, they are located in Teeside.0 -
Orange do and don't charge by the second
Calls are charged per second for in bundle. Calls outside of your inclusive bundle will be rounded up to the next whole minute when they are charged.
So they charge as before- per second until your allowance is up and per minute after thatbaldly going on...0 -

No disrespect but name names.
Tell us exactly what the contract is for getting billed by the second, how much per month and is it PAYG or monthly contract.
Don`t be vague, and also is it a deal that is still avaiable.0
