BMW Z3 'The Most-Vandalised Car'
Publication Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2009
A survey has named the BMW Z3 as the most-vandalised car on the road, closely followed by the Chrysler Crossfire and Porsche Cayenne.
Car insurance company elephant.co.uk has also found that London postcodes are the worst offenders, followed by the Scottish cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Meanwhile, data sorted by manufacturer rather than individual models shows that Porsches are vandalised more often than any other make.
Brian Martin, managing director at elephant.co.uk, said: "It would appear that certain models are more likely to be vandalised than others. Our research shows the top 10 is made up entirely of either expensive luxury cars or soft tops.
"It could be that luxury cars are targeted because of old-fashioned envy. Sadly, some people are jealous of those who drive expensive cars, while in the case of convertibles, they are an easy target. It's relatively simple to slash a fabric roof or PVC window.
"But we don't want to worry car owners with these types of cars. Thankfully, this sort of car crime is still relatively rare."
The top 10 models for malicious-damage insurance claims over the last five years are:
1. BMW Z3
2. Chrysler Crossfire
3. Porsche Cayenne
4. Porsche Boxster
5. BMW Z4
6. Ford StreetKa
7. Honda S2000
8. Smart Forfour
9. Audi TT
10.MG
If mines was ever scratched I would be facing jail time if I caught whoever done it.
what are your experience of car vandals? why do they do it?

Yep, had my car vandalised - customised with unwanted tramlines. Don't think it was jealousy (nice car, but certainly not prestige or new). I believe it was a case of "territorial parking", i.e. I had dared to park in someone else's "space" - even though we're talking on-street parking i.e. no allocated bays etc.
I found out who did it via the jungle drums, and got just a little "artistic" myself.........:rolleyes:0 -

Mine was vandalised and the Police were extremely unhelpful cos they claim culprit wasnt caught red handed even though we all knew who was responsible.0

also, i was blocked in for parking in unallocated parking by the guy who likes to use that spot as 'his'. he is the only one who got no help in the snow!Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000

sounds about right when it comes to some of my experiences with the police!
Never had my car vandalised but did buy a vandalised vehicle, every single panel was scratched by the girlfriend of the owner of the car, He was very upset about it but hes still marrying the woman apparently.
So lady listen up if you want your boyfriend to know your serious and they upset you, scratch there car. Please do make sure they have vandalism cover otherwise this plan may not work!0 -
OH had his wing mirror punched off by a 17 yr old sod up the road from us, he was so kind to leave a piece of skin off his hand hanging from it.
Took it to the police who checked it through a DNA database, and he was on it, they went to see him and he admitted doing it and other cars, all he got was a telling off and we got a bill of 65.00 for a replacment.0 -

haba....what a recommendation.....lol
but it is true cos i know a husband and wife today who met cos the woman vandalised his car
Story was that he parked outside her house. came to the area to do some sales. woman pulled up as he parked and said politely that she wants to park outside her house; if he didnt mind moving.
Man ignores her completely and walks away.
By the time he got back, his 2 tyres close to the kerb , away from public view had been deflated.
He knocked on her door and a shouting match plus accusations started.
Man walks away to pump his tyre with a cig lighter powered pump which was quite slow and took forever.
This lady had a consciense as she was riddled with guilt seeing him struggling to sort out his tyre.
She came out and offered to help but still suggesting she knew nothing about it. Man got the hint that this woman was feeling guilty but rather that continue argueing, he accepted her help as he needed lighting due to darkness etc.
She kept him company and they chatted while the tyres inflated.
when the tyres were done, she asked for his number so she could call him if anyone says they saw who did it.
He gave his number and drove off.
2 hrs later, he received a call from her which became the first of many to come....She told him she did the tyres, said sorry and offered to buy him a drink.
Man accepted and the rest is history0 -

Same here, its the norm where people think they OWN the space outside their house, which you may do if its a drive!! But where i am its communal park so to speak yet they still think they own the spaceEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
