Halifax don't allow paying in over the counter and there nearest branch is 20 odd miles away!
Can you get a post office account without a benefit letter or credit check? DOes anyone know?
Thanks0 -
Credit check means checking your identity, address, fraud, bankruptcy, etc...
Go for the Barclays account mentioned above. It's way better than the others.
After opening the Barclays one, account details are provided on the same day, meaning that the account is opened. You can deposit your cheque one the same day.0 -

That's just because they have machines in their branches that you pay in at instead.
But probably best to go for a bank that has a closer branch to you if there are no Halifax/Bank of Scotland ones near you.0 -

They can check your identity and address electronically, using the voters roll.0 -

If you're talking about the Post Office Card Account with the purple card then I'm afraid that one's only available to people receiving benefits. Wouldn't do you any good anyway, the only people that can put any money in it is a government department paying benefits.
You could check out some of the Post Office savings accounts, or a National Savings account - both can be paid into by cash or cheque over the Post Office counter.0 -
just thought i'd ask, thanks.0

You could try taking the check to a branch of the bank it is issued by (eg Natwest, RBS, Lloyds etc) as most companies have a deal with their banks stating that they can be cashed at any branch of the issuing Bank. I know the company i work for has that agreement.0
