Ideas for the governemt

  • I like these ideas of plastic bag taxes and turning lights off.
I suspect they may not solve the big problems we have - namely national debt and an ageing population.

But not with my new Tobin-2 tax on plastic bags and lights

We can clear our entire national debt (£800bn) simply with a tax on plastic bags - it just needs to raise £730 from every family, every week for a year. About £100 per plastic bag.

Now we have to deal with the £600 billion public sector pension liability (independent.co.uk). £550 per family every week. About £100 fine everytime you have a leave a light on but aren't actually in the room.

ok, perhaps it's not fair to tax "ordinary families" when people who get huge bank bonuses in the city should pay. That works out at just £140 million pounds of additional tax per city banker - a drop in the ocean for most of them.

Next we have to deal with healthcare provision for an aging population....
  • Honestly this has tickled me pink, it's almost cute lol.

The effect of that is that hundreds of people with absolutely no aptitude for teaching, nursing, hospital administration, etc, would work there messing things up even more than those who are at least trying to do things right. Just as some of them might have learned something - off they all go.

I seem to remember that my DD got a bursary from the NHS to pay for the fees, when she was doing an occupational therapy degree.
She got an interest free loan from the bank of mum & dad to help towards living expenses. That has now been paid back.
