Ideas for the governemt

Some ideas have already been publicised such as charging for internet use, or paying extra for plastic carrier bags but one of my pet projects is free travel for everyone, be it on bus, train, subway or tram. Just add a £ or 2 onto income tax to cover running expenses & this would also contribute to overuse of cars.

there are about 25million tax payers
if they each paid say an extra £2 per annum towards your scheme that would be £50 million per annum
do you really think that would be sufficient to offer free public transport for all?0 -
Well done Annie Other and Nosht. This thread has the potential to be the most amusing one for a long time.:rotfl:0

Why cannot windmills/turbines be made of clear perspex/glass or similar see-through material & then we would not have ugly masts on hills?
You would still see the metal shaft which runs from the blades to the ground. The structure has to be strong to withstand being toppled over or bent out of shape by the wind. Glass and perspex are not strong enough, to reinforce them would involve either using visible metal or be prohibitively expensive both of which defeat the object.
Warning noises could be broadcast to save birds & animals bumping into them.
More noise pollution!!!If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I am interested in ideas that saves us money as tax payers and to maximise our already substantial investment in people and services.
I worked for a council for a number of years, and I saw a lot of taxpayers money just totally wasted!!0 -

O.K., then charge more.
It is an early thought not a policy.

1. Expensive, compared to spoiling a view.
2. Ultrasonic "noise" on a wavelength that only the intended recipient can hear.

-if new graduates work for 5 years in the public services e.g, the NHS, education etc, why not wipe out their student loans.
The effect of that is that hundreds of people with absolutely no aptitude for teaching, nursing, hospital administration, etc, would work there messing things up even more than those who are at least trying to do things right. Just as some of them might have learned something - off they all go.0 -
HERE'S ANOTHER ONE.
My local council has Education Dept. forecasts for 2014/2015 for a 25% reduction in the number of pupils attending secondary schools due to a fall in the birthrate. This is already known as these pupils are already at primary school.
Why then are we still trying to attract more youingsters into teaching?

the government projected stats for the UK for age 0-14 are as follows
2008 10.4m
2013 11.0m
2018 11.5m
2023 11.9m
I don't have a statistic for 11-18 age group to hand but the above seems fairly illustrative of no great fall in the number of children requiring teaching.0
