Changing name by deed poll instead of getting married?

All you need is a registrar and a couple of witnesses to get married. It will cost just over £100. No special clothes required, just neat and clean. If you are content with 'no wedding' then surely you will be content with a basic, functional wedding (registrar and witnesses). If you want to get married, get married. If you don't, then don't. But playing 'let's pretend' seems pointless - not to mention complicated.0

Good luck with it, x0

Why not do the deed & get married now, and have a party at a later date, maybe with a renewal of vows, when you are more financially able to fund it?0

I got my wedding dress from TKMaxx, cost £19.99 and was a "proper" white wedding dress, not just a gown if you know what I mean. My Husband got his suit from Peacocks though I cant remember the price we paid. The dearest thing about my outfit was the shoes at £35.
You can do a wedding cheap if you look in the right places. Not everything has to be expensive.
We got married in USA but only because we had to as Hubby is american and didnt have permission to marry here. So we will be having another wedding ceremony style thing when we can afford to as my family didnt get to go to the wedding.

You can certainly get married for just a few hundred £££ (including the cost of a dress, suit hire, and maybe a buffet down the pub for a few select guests).0

ask on freecycle or your local charity shops for dresses for you and the kids.?
good luck
(We both took a few hrs off work, went to the reg office, then the pub for a quick drink with a friend who took photos, outfit from antique market £10.Fantastic day)Every day above ground is a good one0 -
registry office wedding will cost you £30 each to enter notice of marriage, then the cost of the ceremony itself will be from £43.50 upwards (can be several hundred if you choose the most expensive times, normally saturday afternoon or sunday) including one copy of the marriage certificate.
The important thing is to make the day one that you enjoy. You don't NEED a white meringue wedding dress, e.g. I wore a wonderful fur trimmed green medieval style robe (it went with the venue:D) that I bought second hand for £50 (I had planned to sell it on afterwards but I've been a bit soft about that LOL) and bought a new evening dress in the LTS sale to go underneath which has seen good use since. My bouquet was made from silk/paper flowers, feathers etc from a local shop which I then turned into a floral arrangement. I think the only item that was bought new and only got worn once were my shoes because they were pigging uncomfortable - but I was looking at them today with a friend and decided it will be possible to use them to decorate the bedroom, either by framing them or using them in a flower arrangment (they are seriously beautiful).
Some registry offices are in beautiful settings, if you set a day in the summer you could ask the guests to bring a picnic.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

we got an invite to meet some friends down the pub one weekend, nothing unusual in that except for when we turned up we found out they had "run off" to the local registrar office and got married in secret!
they couldnt afford a wedding and all they wanted was to be married, so thats what they did!
happy ever after!
good luck0 -
Just to say you can't just call yourself by another name, you do need to do it legally. If you want to change your bank account/driving licence etc etc they will ask for documentation. I'm with everyone else why not just get married? I think its much more romantic to have a wedding on a rainy weekday its really not about the frock! Best wishes...ps you may even save some tax if the 'other' lot get in next time.0
