I've always just got a receipt of postage for non special delivery items, but it seems now that every batch of items i sell now, theres always 1 that doesnt make it.
This weekend its a grille for a ford fiesta which as you can imagine is quite big and would be quite tricky to lose down the back of the seat of a post van, etc.
Now this annoys me in several ways.
(a) i think theres a percentage of ebayers yanking the chain
(b) there must be a serious percentage of posties swiping parcels
(c) when i ask for a claim for in the post office they look at me like I'M the scammer!!
So, even though its a greater inconvenience to the post office, the buyer and myself, i dont think i've any choice but to post EVERYTHING via recorded delivery.
At least then when it goes AWOL, i'll know its the post offices fault (and i can point that out to the smug BINT in the post office who thinks i'm a thief)
Rant over!!

Recorded though still doesn't show where items went, you still only have proof that item 'was' sent.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Actually i have memories of things going AWOL when i sent them via recorded too.
Its the fact that theres always a doubt in the buyers mind that you didnt send it and are on to some sort of scam and as i said i practically had the last claim for thrown across the counter at me in the post office.
Just because i'm paranoid doesnt mean the post office arent out to get me.0 -

But (and I have no doubt the others apply at some time) there could be 'the weather' as an explantion?
To be fair to the Post Office, they don't deliver, that is Royal Mail!0 -
I recently had a claim in the favour of the buyer £135 worth, my fault didn't send recorded/ signed for just std post. Apparently gone awol so it's my loss. Will claim tomorrow may get the minimum payout. Lesson learned everything goes signed for now. I believe the P O are behind big time but there's no telling paypal that.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

I have to say one time I had to claim-item was sent recorded delivery, buyer said nothing arrived, online tracking was showing "sorry-there's a problem, contact customer support", sent out the claim paperwork, did I get a compensation?(you'd think quite a straightforward case, wouldn't you) -dream on, I "didn't provide sufficient value proof"!(ebay and paypal prints apparently not good enough!) I still even remember PO assistant asking how much was the item worth when posting it, i said £26!0 -
I'm a private seller, and don't really sell very often but when i do, it tends to be in batches, i'd say that 1 in 10 items used to 'go missing' before i started sending everything recorded. Not 1 recorded item has gotten lost yet, but the 1 parcel my husband sent standard mail a few months back also went missing? It's enough to make me pay the extra and send things tracked! :eek:If google doesn't know it, how should i?0

Honestly, £135 item with no tracking and no insurance, why?
You might not even get the £39 as they will claim you used the wrong service.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Recorded delivery has got better recently. It now shows that the parcel has been received at the post office so this is useful info to add to your buyers order details page. I tend to use it, at my own expense. for items worth £20 - £39 or if the buyer seem 'iffy'. My items not received claims are very low, about 1 in 500 sold items, I usually refund or replace without question.0
