They just don't like you(b) there must be a serious percentage of posties swiping parcels.
I assume you put a return address on the stuff you send.
Recorded's rarely worth it, for every 10 parcels you send, you need to lose one worth £46.50 (the £39 insurance + 75p recorded x10).Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

What you find is most people who are having a high level of loses it is either down to poor packaging addressing or no return address on the parcel. This assumption that people seem to have that every postman is stealing parcels is quite funny. Its more likely that the parcel is poorly packaged or it has actually got lost.
The other thing that makes me laugh is the sellers who assume all buyers are out to con them. In my personal experience 99% of buyers are honest. If it was otherwise I wouldn't be selling.
In the past 500 parcels I have had one loss (I dont send anything recorded under £39 just SD over and 99% of my items are worth under £39). If my loses increase I look at what I am doing. Then if problems persist I look at the RM.
A B&M shop has to take account of loses due to shoplifting as an ebayer needs to take into account possible loses due to postage loss and bad claims.0 -
Recorded is absolutely hopeless, I've had far more recorded items go missing than normal post.
Avoid at all costs!!0 -
Same here. If it doesn't show signed at the tracking then sometimes and I mean sometimes you will get a buyer who says it hasn't arrived and you have to give a refund.Recorded is absolutely hopeless, I've had far more recorded items go missing than normal post.

I had a funny feeling about a buyer and sent an item by Special Delivery and even then she said she hadn't received it till I informed her she had signed for the parcel ( her signature)and sent her the tracking number. She left glowing feedback for me but I wonder if she does that for every item she buys just to see if she gets a refund.0 -
Honestly, £135 item with no tracking and no insurance, why?
You might not even get the £39 as they will claim you used the wrong service.
As I said my mistake. In the time I have been using ebay it was the 2nd item to go awol. Last time the other turned up eventually.# Learned a lesson, all going insured/ signed for now...
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -
Another thing to bear in mind is that if the postie's in a rush, they might not get a signature.
It's happened to us a couple of times with items we've received, we sometimes message the seller to let them know (if it's ebay) so they can complain to RM it wasn't signed for, and get their 75p back.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

Dave - just on your point above, as far as I'm aware the postie HAS to get a sig for Recorded Del, for the paperwork they are responsible for. If the person it's addressed to isn't in, someone else can sign, INCLUDING the postie themselves.
My post lasy told me this, as she often has to leave items for me, and often signs for recorded items for me. It is just to confirm the parcel has been delivered to the address it was sent to.
For Special Delivery, I think it does have to be the receiving person, not the postie. They would then leave a card if no one is there to sign.

I tend to use it, at my own expense. for items worth £20 - £39 or if the buyer seem 'iffy'. My items not received claims are very low, about 1 in 500 sold items, I usually refund or replace without question.
My items not received claims are currently running at less than 1 in a 1000 and I never track items under £39.
I prefer to keep my profits myself, an average of 100 parcels a month with me paying 75p for recorded would cost me £75, that's an awful lot of losses before I recoup even part of that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Soolin, I tend to ask buyers to pay for the RD as Sellers are already docked the Paypal fee, and I feel the buyer has all the advantages of using Paypal, so shouldn't mind paying extra for RD when it is imperative (for the Seller) that the postage method must prove the delivery to avoid PP chargebacks.
I wonder what the Paypal stats for chargebacks actually are? They are giving all the scammers out there gifts on a plate at the expense of Sellers!
It makes me angry that PP is so loaded against Sellers, and that now we have to use it to sell. Ebay/PP have it all sweetly sewn up don't they....Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!

You are not allowed to ask 'extra' for recorded anymore, you must show that as the only postal service if you wish to use it without exception. If you do offer a choice of say 1st or 1st class recorded then surely no buyer is going to pay an additional 75p for your protection, I wouldn't! We also get threads on here where people post bits from auctions that they have come across and there is usually much hilarity at sellers who want buyers to stump at 75p extra.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
