The Campaign for an Elected Head of State.0 -
homersimpson wrote:suggest you reword 'A democratically elected head of state' -(first past the post not truly democratic). This 'democratically elected head of state' must be paid a reasonable salary and pay their own living expenses from this (like everyone else). They could have allowances for government business (e.g. travel, protection) etc.
It's Republic's own motto, I'm afraid.
It is a real website and a real campaign. I'm not making it up, honest. It was Republic Day on 2nd June, did you know?

Yawn Didn't realise this was a political forum.
Monarchy or George Bush wannabe. I know which I'd choose and it's not the demonic teddy bear.
I'm off to salute the Union Jack.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

The Union Flag's probably a shorter walk, unless you live near the coast.'It is the duty of righteous men to make war on all undeserved privilege.' - Primo Levi0 -

Tsk! That's no way to talk about Prince William! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
Well not wishing to be drawn into the whole Monarchy v Republic thing as:
a. Been there done that and what changes? Only blood pressure.
b. Don't really think this is the right medium for it
However in a nutshell I would rather have a monarchy who are born into it, have duties for life not just 4 years, actually go out and help causes than some megolamaniac monster whose greed is absolutely shameful.
Oh and I am actually quite disgusted with the comments above regarding public executations, even if it is half in jest. I was half in mind to report it.
If I called for a public assisination of George Bush how would that go down?
Anyway I'll leave it there personally.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

I actually started this thread as a light-hearted response to a news item today.
Obviously there are some strong views out there and people have expressed arguments on both sides. So far so good. I think debate is healthy.
If a moderator wishes to move or close the thread, they are free to do so.
However, I would like to say that I do think this is a useful place for such a discussion. Debt is a political issue - anyone claiming bank charges back on the grounds that they are somewhat shaky legally would probably agree.
If anyone has been offended by the content of this thread, then I apologise for starting it. If it's made you think, however, then job done! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

A little fella by the name of Voltaire once said, 'I detest what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.''It is the duty of righteous men to make war on all undeserved privilege.' - Primo Levi0
