Hi I am new & need advice

Hello there I am new to the forum I have been reading for a while and found some interesting things such as Asda wedding cakes which I am 100% going to use for my wedding (Thank you to who posted that subject!!)

I just thought I would introduce myself before I started posting!

I haven't set a date as yet but we are possibly looking at June or July 2010...The reason being is my partner lives in Turkey and we are currently waiting for his visa to be issued and after that we have 6 months to get married in.

I dont have any savings and I dont have any family who could help so basicly I will be funding my wedding myself!! I dont get a very high income so it has to be mega budget!!! if thats possible

I have already started to buy the small things such as cravat pins....flower diamontes & place setting cards...I have been given cake boxes bfor free :)

I have my dress but I am not 100% happy with it!! I got it from a uk seller on ebay but it is from china which I didnt know when I ordered it!....they didnt make it to the size I had given so it is very big....and the detail isnt as requested.....I dont think I have money to get a new dress and defo not one from the shop that I want which is 800 pounds so I think I need to alter it.

I have allot of questions about catering as I said low budget so need something nice and simple and low cost

so for anyone with Ideas on what to do about my dress and catering please feel free to message me xx

I contacted them with the dispute and they told me that if Iwasnt happy then to send it to China to get it altered....that was going to cost me £25 for the postage and would take up to 30 days to get the dress back (at the time we was going to marry in Turkey so I was hoping to take the dress with me and I was due to go a week after I recieved the dress)
I asked for a refund and she told me as it wa shand made for me she would have to sell it on at a discount so she offered me 80% of the price I paid!! I refused this as I would have had to pay the postage to send it back to her and would then have lost more money!!
She offered me £30 pounds compensation and I took that

I tried to sell the dress on Ebay but I still have it Lol

Can you post an image and we can see what we can do?
Welcome by the way. I'm the resident dressmaker lol. x
  • Hello! Welcome! What kind of reception do you want is the first question re: caterers? Ie - do you want traditional Sit down wedding breakfast then evening buffet? OR do you want to have a wedding later in the day which would mean you could just feed guests once? Are there Turkish relatives coming who might have dietary/cultural food issues? What kind of venue are you thinking - ie as lavish as possible or happier with simple surroundings? Some people want a castle (!) other want a picnic in their local park. Give us some basic ideas of what you would personally like (put money aside etc for time being....sometimes that helps because even if you THINK what you want is out of reach, there may be ways and means!!!!) and then we can help you out :D
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

I did hear a great tip which says have the wedding late in the day and you only have to feed the guests once.
I think it all depends on how intimate or how big you want it? We had ours at a pub and invited close friends only. We had our "glorified pub meal" and then everyone came back to ours.
Cake wise? Supermarkets have some great cakes or you could pile up some profiteroles drizzle them with chocolate sauce and have those. Cup cakes, gateaux's, you don't have to go traditional. The more intimate and less formal the wedding, the less need for the "traditional" things like cake cutting!

    Hi all

My dress was made by a Uk seller on Ebay but she didnt let on to the fact that she also ordered them from china if she was busy!!

Linda thank you for the welcome the site wont let me post a link so if you google alfred angelo style 810 thats what my dress is meant to look like....but the band under the breasts is much lower and much thicker and more lace than beading and also the breast area is to large for my boobs to fit...she has placed little cup like things inside the dress but you can actually see them and they are tiny compaired to my boobs!
I requested star buttons every other button but she made stars out of beads and it is awful so I was thinking maybe take the beads off and replace them with buttons

Hello bugmomma thanks for the welcome...Well I dont have a big family and wouldnt want all of them at my meal I would only want my close family and friend which is prob only about 20 people at the meal...I looked at a local pub/barn calle the tudor barn they do the whole wedding so I wouldnt have to go to the reg office but they havent got back to me with prices yet!! I also found a place where you hire the hall for £300 pounds but then I would have to do the reg office thing...I dont want it to big or to small just in the middle....I wanted to have the tables but dont have a budget for a sit down meal.....

none of my partners family are coming to the wedding but we do have a couple of friends who are Turkish who will be coming but not to many that I will need to change the menu allot!

I wanted it English/Turkish so my partner didnt feel left out by the fact that it was just my family so we wanted to do the Turkish tradition of pinning money to the married couple also like the Idea of having a Meze!!

ermm I cant think of anything else right now Lol

Hi Linda I dont know if leaving it till later in the day would be good for me I wouldnt want to wait arround all day haha....it is the Turkish way thou so maybe its a thought! there wouldnt be allof of people for the meal as I said and then for the evening party there would be a max of 150
I found my cake on Asda'a website for the plaine white fruit cake its about £30 for a 3 tier cake :D

Have you thought about doing the registary office and then going to a turkish resturant. we went to a small wedding at one resently and they adapted the menu to the budget and all traditional entertainment was provided by the resturant as this was the norm on a saturday in that resturante - it was brill and i think it cost about £20 per head there were 30 of us and we bought our drinks at the bar so no wine bill only a very small asda cake ( Isorted that as my sister decorated it it was 8.99) as the resturant provided the desert which was a huge profiterole mound with chocolate sauce LUSH! just an idea whole reception cake and entertainment came to just under 600
