Re-direction of mail

We are completion in the next week so I’ve just set up Royal Mail's re-direction service, but just in case a letter slips through and gets delivered to the old address, would you leave your forwarding address for the new buyers?
I just a little wary of supplying this address to them - what if they weren't happy with something, it would be just my luck to open the door one day and find them standing there.:eek:

I usually leave a supply of addressed labels and some stamps.
What if they do turn up on your doorstep? Once you've completed then your obligations are as set out in the contract and no more.
Your only other option is to speak to your postie to see if he will double check the mail going through the letterbox, but his terms of employment almost certainly mean that he must not interfere with the mail - probably a sackable offence if he does.

If you are not comfortable with leaving them your address then don't do it. I never left a forwarding address for the buyers of my last house as I felt that they may possibly want to contact me if something went wrong & like you, didn't want to take the chance in them turning up on my doorstep unexpectedly.
The Royal Mail's redirection service has been pretty good in my experience, & usually the only stuff to still get through after about 6months is usually junk mail anyway.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I certainly didnt leave a forwarding address after a serious falling out with out buyers, nor did I set up a re-direction.
I did however inform all the important people and companies of my new address and moving date and nothing has gone astray. However the buyers are getting all my junk mail still0 -
We intend to leave a forwarding address, and possibly some address labels, with our buyers just in case anything slips through Royal Mail's redirection. The alternative option we would also give them is to pop any mail for us in the neighbour's letterbox as we will be meeting her regularly.0

I've been wondering the same thing myself.
At the moment we get on brilliantly with our buyers, we've swapped phone numbers (must admit I haven't given them our mobile numbers though) but I am wary if they find anything in this home that they are unhappy with. This house is 130 years old & they didn't have a survey done & they only looked around it once before they offered followed by a 5 minute visit the night before we exchanged & then we just sat & had coffee in the kitchen so chances are they are going to find something they don't like.
Then again we have got an unusal surname & they know which development we are moving to so I don't suppose we'd be hard to find.0 -
leave them a poste restante address ( your name at any post office )
and that way they dont have your address

But you will exchange contracts .... and the contract sets out what you, and they, are required and not required to do.
Also, house buying is "caveat emptor" which means that the buyer needs to satisfy themselves about what they are buying. It is not for the seller to point out the problems.... it's for the buyer to find them out.
Sorry, but you are all stressing without good cause. It's remarkably easy to find out where someone lives. And if any buyer thought a seller was liable for "whatever" they would involve their solicitor .. .who would know the solicitor acting for the seller ... who would contact the seller .....Warning ..... Why not just give them your work address? Unless you work alone, they are unlikely to come along and intimidate you if you are there with lots of people around - although as another poster said, why would they want to anyway?
(unless you left prawns sewn into the curtain hems because you got so fed up with them during the sale?)0 -
I used this poste restante service when I was travelling in Australia - it works really well. I was travelling around a lot and mostly camping. So, when I knew I was going to be at a major town/city I'd get my parents to send mail to one of the post offices there.
I also use Royal Mail post re-direction as I move a lot here in the UK (student!).
I've also now made a list in the back of my diary of all the most important addresses I get post from (banks, close friends, student related things), but also what I now do is, whenever a letter arrives for me that I'd forgotten I add it to the list - then when I move again I generally have a comprehensive list of people to inform.....then I just transfer the list over into my new diaries each year.0
