I don't use it but I have read on here that a new user can write 5 reviews a day (or get points for 5 anyway). Not sure if that is still the case.

Feeling more optimistic about this now, got bids on a few items and watchers on nearly all of the other ones. Hopefully everything will sell.
How long are you guys listing things for? I have been doing small things for just 3 days. And more significant things for 10 days
However, does the listing fee increase if you change the amount of days its on for?Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
Do you guys know just how long it's taken to read through 170 odd pages  My poor ickle head is now a thumping :rotfl:
My mam always used to say "Better late than never" - so could I be added to your members preeeeeeety pleaseeeeeeee. Thank You !
I've picked up quite a few additional ideas, some variations on ideas I already had for myself and jolted into some lateral thinking on others while reading through .... and I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone for such a great collective spirit.
I'm another Dorsetshire Hampshirelite here - so that now makes 4 :rotfl:
I would like to put forward another idea to those already given, which is the "Rent-A-Room Scheme"
Now, although this doesn't really fit in with the £100 to start with bit.... it's still something worth looking at for those who are able ... and best bit is.... earnings from it (as long as you keep to the limits) are tax free

PS - someone mentioned they'd made a "Bingo type thingy" to print off - and were colouring in a square to track their income from the challenge .... If anyone has a template of this ... would they be kind enough to share itThanks Again xx

According to the Revenue, customs duty won't be due as it's less than £120 but import vat will be due as it's value is over £18. Plus the post office will charge an £8 fee to collect the VAT.
Does anyone have any experience of ordering stuff from the US or other countries? If so, were you charged customs duty/vat? I'm wondering whether they check and add the charges on to every parcel where duty/vat is due, or do some slip through the net? If so are you obligated to tell someone and pay up?
Hi there, sorry your post seemed to get swallowed up in this very fast moving thread .... I used to do Import Clearance for a living (albiet a while ago now).
Ordering products from anywhere outside the EU, either for own use or resale will usually incurr Import Duty & VAT (and occasionally excise as well ie alcohol etc)
Whichever method you use to import by, the carrier will always charge a fee ... this is NOT so much for the "collection" of D&V - but is a HMCE Customs Clearance Charge. Each time an import arrives into the UK, it has to be "Customs Cleared". This is done by either the Carrier (if it's a courier company ie dhl etc) or by a Freight company if it's a larger import (ie sea container or airfreight shipment) on a specialist computer system linked to HMCE.
Personally I would use the slightly more expensive route of either a good Courier company or a Freight company. They have the expertize to be able to advise on how best to import things, the correct tariff / duty % to classify the goods under, and will know when they can use a "simplified" entry for certain types of imports. This can include low value items, and also imports of SAMPLES.
The amount of duty & vat payable will be dependant on the cost of the goods (ie the invoice amount) , the cost of freight (ie courier / postage type costs) AND the actual TYPE of goods being imported. Different goods = different Duty rates.
Hope that helps a little

Finally! I've made it to the end of the threads.
Any chance I could be added to the list of those taking part? I doubt I'll bring in anything like the target, but then it's always better to aim high I suppose eh?
I've made my first investment in the project today - bought a couple of things @ £4 each from ebay that I intend to "add value" to and then sell on for around £15 each. I've only bought a couple as an experiment to see if they'll sell. If they do, I'll get a few more, and hopefully in a year's time I'll be £10k+ better off
Thanks all for the motivation (and the distraction from "real" work) ..."In all affairs it's a healthy thing now and then to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted." - Bertrand Russell0 -

Did I read somewhere in this thread that Haynes manuals sell well on ebay? I saw several today in my local charity shop for £1.50 each, do you think it is worth ago for all of them or is it only ones for certain vehicles that sell well?Life is a work in progress0
