I didn't order my shopping online last week or for this week as I had a sneaking feeling that it could get cancelled. Instead, I put on my big coat and walking boots and headed off to the local shops, local garage and a nearby netto. Today I went to the supermarket in the car and stocked up plus we have stuff in the freezer and plenty of heinz beans etc. Simple really if you think about it and no, I haven't panic bought, instead I have planned for another week of bad weather and got off my backside to get some shopping done!0

In the bad snow of January 1982 we woke up to waist high snow and only a tin of carrots and a tin of tomatoes in the cupboard. (We were poor!) I walked the mile into town - being hauled from a snowdrift by a passing kind man - did enough shopping to last a few days when we hoped to be able to get the car out, and dragged what I'd bought home in a black bin bag. Hope I don't have to do that this time!0

Thats fair enough curlyboy - it really isn't the fault of the delivery drivers, they have to make the decision on whether a road/area is too icy for driving safely but.... not everyone is capable of getting out and about in this weather. I rely on Tesco's delivery's as I have a disability that makes it impossible for me to walk on icy or snowy pavements (and the supermarkets often do not grit their car parks), I also shop online for my mum who's so frail that a slip on the ice would be catastrophic for her. I have to say that in the old days, before home deliveries, I really DON'T know how I would have managed (although in them days I had a DH who would have done it for me!). Anyway, my Tesco driver is a hero - he got through :A0 -
My order for Thursday was cancelled which was fair enough as the weather here is awful. My order was deleted from my account and I wasn't happy as it took me ages to make my list as I was planning meals for the entire month. I called up CS who reinstated my order and booked me another slot for 4-6pm yesterday. It actually arrived at 2pm as they wanted all the orders delivered ASAP but they hadn't called to tell me. Nevermind though I was in at the time. I've sinced checked my account and there is a free delivery and a 10 pounds off of a £50 order evoucher added. I didn't even ask for that so I'm well pleased. TBH I wouldn't want a delivery driver to put himself in danger just so I can get my shopping.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

Years ago the milkman delivered, the grocer delivered, the corner shop delivered, there was just a brief gap when the supermarkets grew and delivery was not an option. In those days not only were the council more likely to grit the road but the coal fires meant that people put cinders down on the paths to make it easier (my uncle is still doing this). Not all people were good neighbours and not all families rallied round but people were a lot more willing to twitch the curtains and there was a better chance of noticing someone who was stuck. Also, people were more likely to be carried off by TB, heart disease, etc before they got too frail to walk on slippy pavements, life expectancy has risen.
If someone talks about the past I wish they would get it right.
Mr S rang four hours before delivery to say sorry, and I really didn't mind, there is so much weather. They gave us the option if someone could collect it then they would 'pick' the order - but it wasn't practical. The problem is not the cancelled order but the guarantee that was completely impossible to meet.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
