    Hi

    Get cheeky.

When you are still in the shop, gently scrape the bark low down on the plant with your thumb. if you see green, consider buying it, if it is brown leave it.

Alternatively break a root and see if that is live.

You need live roots and a live stem, even if only low down. I see a lot of dead twigs for sale in the cheap shops and sometimes even in the lower cost supermarkets.

    Garden !!!!!!, I call it.

As a rule it takes plants that do well two years to produce much of a crop.

    Hiya there

Can anyone please let me know what 99p store is doing this? Or perhaps post a link to their site etc so I can see if they have them by me... Very interested in getting some but we have tonnes of different 99p stores where I am

    Thank you in advance!

We have had various fruit bushes from Aldi/Lidl and Morrisons, they were something like 3 varietys for £2.99 from adli/lidl and £1.29ish from Morrisons.
All grew well last year, but not a huge crop, I am expecting better this year now they are established.

Morrisons aren't that cheap but everything i've bought there has grown well.
