Unfair Christmas Eve or New Years Eve working

As a chef I worked Christmas eve/day and new years eve/day I'm sure most people are aware of the sacrifices that your chosen career brings.
As restaurants charge extra for customers over Christmas/New Year I would hope they pay extra to their staff. In the same way if you're a taxi driver or plumber you may have to work but get extra pay. Some people are stuck with minimum wage on any day of the week.0 -

No businesses no work... we could all have christmas eve and new years eve off... whilst sitting in a snow covered field hungry and homeless. Compared to what your grandparents used to work we have it easy. Be thankful for paid holidays, paid sick leave, bank holidays and all the other paid benefits. If you are lucky enough to get to go home early, make sure you let your boss know that you appreciate it.
Yep, and no workers no bussinesses.0 -
What a ridiculous excuse for a petition, shows people have got nothing better to do with their time.
Hope my employers don't read this and decide not to let me go home early next time (although I'm normally one of those on a/l for xmas...... maybe I should put in a grievance...)0 -
upto the dizzying heights of 20 signatures! Gordon Gordon! pass this through parliament now!!!!Always ask ACAS0

A lot of people aren't guaranteed that, it's given at managers descretion after you've done 12 months service.fuzzball172 wrote:paid sick leave
I'd like some paid benefits - I struggle to get overtime pay from my employer and when I do get it it gets rounded down e.g. 6 hours 15 minutes gets paid as 6 hours.fuzzball172 wrote:all the other paid benefits.0 -
I worked Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
I work in a nightclub, I got home Christmas day at 6am. (I got home on New Years day at 8am, but that's because we were let out as soon as possible and legged it down the road to the club that was open til 7am
). It was quite good fun, actually. £2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January0
