I left my heating on 24/7 update

It's always going to cost more to heat a two storey home though, isn't it. We're in a large, two bed flat and decided to do the same this Winter ie: have heat when we needed it, instead of going cold or (stupid mistake made last year) have the front room fire on all day and half the evening, thinking that would be cheaper than using the CH. Yeah right. Heating part of one room all winter is a great idea. Doh! LOL! Anyway....
We set the thermostat to 16C, set the boiler timer to to early morning, late afternoon and late evening for two hours on the first two settings, one hour on the last. Our last quarterly gas bill, which took us from end Sept to near the end of Dec was £92. My hubby works from home and we use a fair bit of hot water. We were pleased with that bill and expect the next bill to be a bit higher, if only because of the cold, snowy January we've had.
Now if only we could get the electric bill down!
P.S. by "leaving the heating on all the time" do you mean leaving the boiler in the ON position or just setting the timer for scheduled on/off? We tried the former our first year in this flat and the bill was huge. Didn't make that mistake again!0 -
Leaving it on all the time we mean by leaving the boiler to the on position so that it is on or off depending on the room thermostat. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0

I was trying to keep two octogenarians warm over Xmas, due to the stupidly large vent BG insisted they needed. It's about 4" up the wall and big and square. I've ended up folding the local newspaper in half lengthways and wedging that up against it - there's still a hell of an icy blast from it though. Bottom 18" of the room is 9degrees, 3' up the room can be 24 degrees ... but that icy blast round your feet/shins is a killer.
In fact I am sat here now, cross legged on the chair, as it's still a permanently icy cold blast.0 -
Whats the vent for? You perhaps shouldnt be blocking it off if its for the gas.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0
