I left my heating on 24/7 update

I said I was going to put my heating back on timed and I did for one night and used slightly less gas for that night but the temp in my kitchen dropped to 9 deg C and my wife moaned about it being cold when she got up during the night to make a drink.

So it is back on 24/7 with the thermostat turned down to 15 deg C during the night from its normal 21/22 deg C during the day and to hell with the cost.

And to all those who wonder why the temp drops so much downstairs:confused: when the heating is off, it is because of the dirty great hole BG made us put in the kitchen wall:eek: for ventilation.

The temp upstairs during this cold spell has never dropped below 15 deg C even when the kitchen dropped to 9 deg C, so the attic insulation is doing its job.

So I used less gas when the heating was off during the night but it got cold.

So to anyone who comes on here and asks the question, is it cheaper on all the time or timed?

If it is off it uses no gas and the house gets cold, if it is on it uses gas and the house keeps warm.

And if your wife gets up during the night and moans about the cold you leave it on all night but with the thermostat turned down to 15 deg C

Now to search for a vent hole blocker that keeps BG happy:rotfl:

If you want to keep everyone happy, install a Heat Recovery Ventilator. These give you fresh air, but it comes in all warmed up. Had mine a few months now and very impressed. From Kiltox.

I agree Steve, excellent that you have had these installed.

Why not link your video of it in action?

Goodness, those heat recovery ventilator are very expensive arent they.

I cant see why people need the heat on during the night, I cant stand dry warm air when Im sleeping or trying to - have a window open all year round. Get a thicker duvet - much cheaper than leaving heating on.

It doesnt warm the air like a heater would, the air blowing out of it is the same temperature of the air in side the room.

Its like an extractor fan only the air being extracted the heat in the air is removed and given to the fresh cold air being sucked in.

So the air is the same temp as in the room, it doesnt heat the room up it just means your not throwing expensive heat out of the window.

£262 for a single room heat recovery ventilator - hmmm
  • It is only because it is so cold outside that the temp was dropping to 9 deg C that I am keeping the heating on all night.

I think it only cost me an extra £10 in gas.

So, that is not very cost effective is it?

Anyway the heating is back to being off at night and my wife hasn't moaned once.

No but its not all about saving you money, the fact is so many people have the heating on and leave windows open as well to get fresh air wasting fossil fuels and that.

Save the environment we all have to take some responsibility.

A much simpler and cost effective solution would be to tell your wife not to go trapsing around downstairs during the night :D

Bloody women, whatever they do they cost you money :p
