Is there a standby setting setting on the phone? Can you give more details about what is happening.

Something like goto settings...main display.....stand by mode

My bro has the 6303 - I might ask him about it.

When I go to camera to take a photo it just says camera on standby...I've looked at the book and I'm going to the correct part to take a photo.
Its probably something stupid but I'm sure I've tried everything! I'm a sony person!

Think it might be a problem on the phone itself - you might have to take it to nokia care center to repair it (thats my suspicion reading some stuff on net). Will have a play on my bro's phone later on and see if I can spot anything.

Seems to be common issue - my bro has been experiencing problems trying to send international texts (to US) - sends a text and its not being received - tried everything vodafone suggested. Have not tried firmware update - you might want to try that to see if your problem is fixed.

If it's any use, you can download the user guide in PDF from Nokia here:

You can then use the 'Find' tool in Adobe Reader to search for a particular word such as 'camera' or 'standby', something you can't do with the printed version.;)

Phoned up Orange today and got a replacement coming tomorrow - hope this one is ok!
