I presume you're either single or in a couple with separate bank accounts? ;)

No way you can keep tabs on every single purchase for both of us, which is why I love the text banking service as it tells me everything at 7.30am, which means OH is still in the house to question if necessary!

We're a couple with a joint account. We used to have a joint account for bills and separate accounts for our "spending" money but we since we came back to FD (after about a month of pain with A&L) we've only got the joint account.

I suppose I'm lucky that my OH doesn't spend frivolously and we normally talk about spending before/after it happens. I also download all the transactions to my PC so I can analyse our budget.

Strangely while I was banking with A&L I found that the available balance was upto date however the statement didnt show the latest transactions used to arrive at the shown balance - which I found wierd, and a bit confusing. That might have changed recently though my experience is from 3 years ago.

Overall I agree with you with regard to the available balance on FD, there's no technical reason why they can't or shouldn't show it. I'll send them a secure message asking why.

I think FD are in the process of re-vamping their internet banking. I'm a customer and recently have been doing some qualitative surveys for them regarding usability of their site.

    Let's hope so!

Fine, go to a company wth this functionality, but get a poor service in every other area.

Crazy-the priorities people put on some things.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Here's the reply I got from FD.
    Re: Available Balance

Thank you for your message dated 14-Jan-2010 regarding your available balance.

We appreciate you taking the time to send us your comments which have been passed to our e-Commerce Project Team.

Please be assured that all customer feedback is taken seriously, however we do receive many change requests for our electronic banking services every day.

Each request is recorded to enable us to monitor the number received, these are then assessed for suitability and prioritised accordingly.

Although your suggestion cannot be implemented immediately it will be held on our database. We do advise our customers, via an online message, when upgrades have been made to our electronic banking services.

You can find your available balance from the 'my accounts' screen by clicking the 'make payment' option to right of the account you wish to check.

Once again thank you for your feedback and please let us know if you require anything further.

    Regards

Yes, it's sometime in the early hours on Monday 2am +.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D
