Hmmmm i admit that not being able to delete previous payees has amused me in the past given that it must be reasonably easy enough to implement, however if you're going to the effort of ringing them to change the details to your own, or writing "dno not use" after them, why not just ask them to delete them! Thats what i did and they were gone by the morning.

Regular as clockwork I get a text every morning around 7.30am telling me my balance.

I think the general concensus here is First Direct are brilliant and if your with them, then stay with them. If your not, then join them!!

I am about to leave Alliance & Leicester after about 10 years - they are the most hopeless bank on the planet I find. Transfers from my savings account to my premier current account can and usually do take 48 hours!! Totally unacceptable. I have banked with First Direct also since they started about 20 years ago. I personally cannot fault them and am surprised to read all the bad comments about them today. I dont ring them often but it is sheer bliss getting to speak to a person after 2 rings!

Having a budget means you know what is coming out and when, and I keep rough tabs on other spending. Its not rocket science.
I'd be worried, as I said in my earlier post, if I had no idea what my balance was from day to day without being told by the bank.. What if they made a mistake?

I presume you're either single or in a couple with separate bank accounts?

No way you can keep tabs on every single purchase for both of us, which is why I love the text banking service as it tells me everything at 7.30am, which means OH is still in the house to question if necessary!

This is easier said than done. Myself and my partner work all day during the week and don't get much time to see each other through the week.

Therefore spending that little time working out what each other has spent just won't happen.

My view is if the other banks can do it then so can FD.
