Sky Digital Weather Problems?

Or used normal PVC electrical tape & not Self amagamating tape, but the OP has a Quad so no need for tape.Did you get new services installed backfoot? Or was it for a fault?
I still use self amalgamating tape on Quads, water can go uphill due to capillary action, and still get in to the cable / F connector joint.0 -

Basically it's a totally new installation.New dish, new cabling and new box.
When they installed {only 2 days ago) there was an initial 'shorting' fault'.The one guy went back out to rectify it and said that his mate had left the cable too long and it had bentover to cause the short.I just mention this in passing but it does indicate that he had remedied the problem.
Would there be water ingress within a couple of days? Possible....it was bitterly cold when they fitted and they may not have sealed properly.
Since then,we have been put onto a single feed setting which has restored all the channels. However, won't this deny us all the functionality of Sky Plus? The operator said no but I am not yet convinced.
Still feel I am being shortchanged.0 -

Yup,I do too as I dont trust the pull down covers to fully prevent the water from getting in.Problem is tho,80% of Sky installers have no experience or qualification's outside of their Installer course (mine lasted 3 days) whereas the courses I did just to become an installer with NTL was 3 months!
Sky installers (certainly the one's I've worked with) are more concerned by the amount of jobs they can cram in as opposed to the quality of their work.I've seen Qual LNB's hammered into the circuler arm of the round lightweight digi dish because the engineer could'nt be bothered to change it.One of best (or worst!) was the installer who cut & used the EU's existing TV Airial cable from the chimney mounted airial & used that,it was'nt until the EU got home & could'nt watch his freeview in the bedroom that he called Sky.To make it worse, the dish was attatched to a crumbling chimney breast with a standard mounting & had to be moved anyway.I think the installer got the boot for that.
BTW,
I also installed my own systems way back in 97/98 (analog) & then the mini dish when Sky Digital came out &,like you, have never had any bother!0 -

The water can creep into the cable in minutes!
As for the functionality, you can only record what you're watching & if you change channel while recording,it will too.0 -

Sounds like bullship to me, more likely that the " initial shorting " was badly fitted and allowed the inner and outer cables to touch each other, which in turn could well have damaged the LNB and/or the Sky Receiver.
A single feed setting will certainly reduce the recording capability.0 -

Cheers. Can you just clarify this for me,please. Are you saying that having the single feed the functionality is impaired?
I thought the whole concept of the dual feed was to allow for in box recording while you could watch something else. The telephone operator indicated I wouldn't lose anything0 -

Yes,But because you have gone onto one feed you can only tape what you're watching because the second channel has effectivly been removed. In essence, you're using a standard Sky box that has a PVR.0 -

Absolute rubbish.
I would not trust or believe anything any Sky employee told you.
If your Sky+ Receiver didn't require 2 feeds to function fully, Sky would only fit a single feed.0 -
Put it like this, your LNB is like an old fahioned radio tuner. When you change channel on the TV,the LNB retunes it'self to the new channel,it's not like your old TV Airial that picks up loads of TV stations, the LNB can only pick up whatever channel it's tuned to at the time.much like the old radio.0
