Sky Digital Weather Problems?

On Wednesday ( today friday) we had a new dish installed to receive Sky Plus and HD.All was working well till today.
We can receive around a half the channels with the other half showing the error message 25. 'No satellite signal being received'.There doesn't seem to be much pattern to those received or not.e.g Sky sports not working ...grrr.....but Eurosport is.....BBC1 is but not BBC2.
Rang Sky who said they suspected weather problems as they were getting lots of similar problems. We did a reset /restore but no affect.
We have very icy and cold weather but only a dusting of new snow since installation.
They suggested we wait till weather improves before calling out an engineer.
Am I being fobbed off or may there be a genuine weather effect on this new equipment.?
Anybody else affected?

Yeah I had this issue due to the heavy snow and the big freeze.
I did not get any channels at all on Tuesday. However normal service resumed on Wednesday.
Maybe hold out a few days and see what happens.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
i get this problem more in heavy rain than the snow, so yes the weather is a factor0

Can anybody provide a layman's technical explanation? (if that's possible?)
Why some channels and not others?0 -
i think, not 100% sure, that the cloud cover prevents the signal getting to the dish, i maybe wrong, i'm sure someone will pop in soon who can tell you for definite
some channels have stronger signals than others.0 -
Press Services-4-6 on your remote,You will see 4 grey bars, the signal quality should be above half way (ideally 3/4)
If it's any less, you need the dish realigned as it's moved or the installer did'nt fit the LNB retaining pin in the arm & the LNB's sliding out of the arm (the cables act as a spring)
I've came accross that before, lazyness on the part of the installer!!0 -
Agreed, get Sky back, it sounds very much like a poor installation, no surprise really for Sky Installers, they are generally not the best.
My Sky never ever goes off, but I installed it myself.0 -
I've checked the signal strength and quality as suggested. All of the bars are above 75% full. Does this mean that the set up of the dish /lnb is ok?
Any other thoughts?0 -

Not neccessarily.
a) It only means that is the strenght/quality of the default transponder (different channels broadcast from different transponders on the Sat and thats before taking account of the ones that broadcast from Eurobird at 28.5 like ESPN Classic)
b) The internal signal meters are known not to be totally accurate.
Basically if you are losing signal in anything but 'freak' weather then your dish is misalligned to some degree.0 -

Not necessarily. It could be that the installer has not sealed the cable to the LNB properly. Moisture ingress can cause these symptoms.RIP independent MSE.

Or used normal PVC electrical tape & not Self amagamating tape, but the OP has a Quad so no need for tape.Did you get new services installed backfoot? Or was it for a fault?0
