This was announced some months ago. At the time, it didnt get much coverage.
The only shame is that Shabby rhymes so well with Abbey. Santander will need a new nickname.
Its a shame another UK name has gone but the way the brand has been destroyed and the service and products of Abbey have been so poor for so long, its not much of a loss.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). They can run but they can't hide. The blighters that stole thousands of pounds from me and millions of others in Unfair Charges may think a name change will wipe the slate clean but it won't. These are ruthless, nasty, mean spirited banks who thrive on our !!!!-ups and fear of authority. And how wasteful! They sent me a new card a month before Christmas and another will be on its way soon with a new name on it. They aren't fit to shovel...stop me! Stop me!0

I’m so glad the name-change signs are going up.
There are probably a few people around (old f@rts like me) who still remember Abbey being good at what they did, and I wouldn’t want the confusion to continue.0 -
My mate works in an abbey call centre in sheffield, He basically doesnt give a !!!! about his job, I think most of his colleagues are the same they just see it as this hole they have to go to from 9 to 5.
Thats probably the reason u guys get crap service from them.0 -

Its a shame. I don't want to sound like an old fogey (i'm still in my 30s - just). However, when I started my career with the bank, you had to pass the banking exams to do any job above a certain level. That was 2 nights a week after work at the college. one of them was 6pm to 9pm (with you finishing work between 5 and 5.30). The classroom was full of other bank staff doing the same.
Getting rid of that sort of professionalism hits service.
Although the consumer is to blame as well here. In the ever increasing focus on getting things for lower cost, it shouldn't come as a surprise that quality drops with it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
