I beg to differ from many of the posts on here.
My family and I loathed Turkey with a vengeance, probably because we had holidayed so many times in Greece and decided to give it a try.
Two solid weeks of being pestered, badgered and abused by the rudest bunch of shysters it's ever been my misfortune to meet.
The Turkish men are old-fashioned misogynists and the food doesn't appear to extend beyond kebabs.
Do yourself a favour - go to Greece instead.

Absolutely and totally agree, unfortunately the greed overrides the decency of the decent people.

I did like the food though.

I've been 3 times, never again.

Whatever you do don't be taken in by the national scam of buying a 'cheap' property there.....you will be ripped off.;)

  • don't think on North Cyprus because there is little water and expensive.Turkey (Antalya) would be the best destination may to septemper.
  • We went to Turkey last year - AI in Sarigerme, we had a fantastic time. Yes, the locals try to sell you stuff in the markets, but we had a laugh with them, a bit of banter and came away with nothing! so you dont have to feel threatened, they are really warm people we thought! They loved the fact we had five kids too. Our resort was uber clean, with fantastic food, the only thing we found lacking was entertainment (and I know I am being really awfully british) but we would have loved maybe a crazy golf course or something like that!
But I would say go for sure.;)

I went to Side last year , and booked Lara Beach for this July .
Yes its hot .... very hot ....mega hot :D
    But as I sat , in the shade , by a pool ..... I survived.

    Nickynoodles gave a good posting
    Our resort was uber clean
I was amazed how many dedicated cleaners I saw.

Main street in Side , has too be seen to be believed
Like Oxford st in the sales , but selling only jeans/handbags/t-shirts.
It is so bad , that you MUST see for yourself ,
Which is a shame because off the street its nice.
  • Take a look a Malta, we went last Jul/Aug and stayed in Mellieha. Local transport cheap & easy, eating out was much same as home but if u go self catering use local butchers& fishmongers, market for fruit, veg, fab local bakeries and bbq. It was hot everyday still got my tan now and that was using high fac sunscreen. Spent few days on Gozo was lovely and the fiestas are an experience, music, pomp, dancing in the street etc. Going to bodrum this year cos we like to somewhere different each year.

Turkey will be VERY hot then.
The Turkish people will be amongst the nicest you have ever met.
Yes, you may get asked to look in a shop, go in a bar or restaurant, they are trying to make a living, be polite and say no if you want but talk to people. Most working in tourist areas are from other parts of Turkey, they work very long hours sometimes just for a share of profit from where they work. They may have family they may not see for the whole season, sending money home as they can.
We get education until 16 at least, a lot of Turkish people do not. They may speak many languages, with no secondary education, I for one cannot match what they do.
Go, be nice, and enjoy it, you will not regret it.
If you are not prepared to fit into another countries culture and way of life, stay at home.
I love Turkey and Turkish people.

Well I tried to give Turkey another chance.
Just back from a week in a different area but if anything the hassling and thievery was even worse.
It's as if the Turks are pre-conditioned to be untrustworthy and grasping from the moment they are born - everyone was on the look-out to fleece and shakedown anyone who looked like a tourist.

Kusadasi - I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

    Never,ever again.
