Whilst I think the above is maybe verging on ever so slightly boring, it is clear concise and easy on the eye.
The current MSE format is similarly streamlined (but not boring, lol).
The new one is not as easy to immediately navigate.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I'm affraid i'm not keen on it....
1. Don't like the new colour, much prefer the gradient green as current....
2. I prefer the coloured tabs on the current one, immediately helps differentiate the different areas of the site. Now they just all seem to blend.
Other points
- smaller masthead = better for my netbook screen
- the new one does look more professional without "deals" and "news" just hovering there.
HTH0 -
Its certainly tidier, but not sure I like all that green, it gives me a headache:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
"Marleyboy you are a legend!"
MarleyBoy "You are the Greatest"
Marleyboy You Are A Legend!
Marleyboy speaks sense
marleyboy (total legend)
Marleyboy - You are, indeed, a legend.0 -
My four-pennyworth:
Overall very nice, the different colour fonts on the top tabs looks a bit pre-school but I like the illumination of them
You seem to have 2 search boxes - one on masthead and one underneath the tabs... looks odd.
Forum tab needs highlighting in some way - maybe a HUGE flashing arrow?? (I could be biased, a tad)
Two colour green masthead looks odd... how about a fade from one to the other colour rather than the straight change?
Last thing..... we all know it's a striped shirt but you can't tell from the pic of you!!
Well done to the backroom guys and gals xxSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
Think my comments have already been aired:
1. A graduated shade-change would look better.
2. The 'Forum(s)' tab could be a bit more obvious for new members.
3. Not 100% convinced with the picture - the direct stare is a little bit disconcerting.
On the other hand, it could all grow on me - most things DO eventually.

Good move to reduce the vertical height (is there any other sort?!), to give more space for Useful Stuff on ghastly netbook screens. :T
Who's the smug-looking bloke at the top left? :eek:0 -
On the whole I prefer the new version but with a few adjustments - I agree with others that the gradiated green looks better but prefer the new colours so if can't be done then whole thing in top green colour is best, I also agree that the forum tab doesn;t stand out as much as it did. Lastly I would rather the tabs be coloured than the writing on the tabs be coloured. But overall more sleek and modern but still friendly looking - don't do away with the dressed-up Martins though!0

Is it just me that thinks Martin looks sinister in the new pic? Don't like it at all, not the inviting friendly face you want people to be met with (and which you are currently met with in the current pic).
Also the green background is vomit inducing and the split makes no sense to the design, just makes it look wrong (and cheap)
The rest looks fine though0 -
Just spotted soemthing else.
On all of the tabs when you hover over them the colours invert so the text goes to grey and the background changes to whatever the text colour was. Except that is for the home button where only the home icon changes to green, the background stays the same.
That seems a little inconsistent to me.
Much as I like MSE I've always found the home page to be a touch cluttered. Personally I'd like to see a really strreamlined version.
It was one of the things that impressed me so much about Google when they launched compared to other search engines, it just did what it was supposed to with no clutter.
I know you can't go as minimal as Goolge but I would love to see a much cleaner, simpler home page. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
