Do not sign up for Vodafone sim only deal!

Just signed up, on line, for the sim card only 600 mins plus unlimited texts deal at £15 per month. Got the sim card yesterday. Doesn't work. Message says 'No service'. Called Vodafone yesterday morning. There's a problem......phoned again this morning as it still doesn't work. Terrible. Showing as 'active' on the screen'......etc etc.....oh dear, appears to be a problem with corporate....what the heck, I'm really not interested.

They've offered to give me the first months rental free, and they would 'hope to get back to me today by 4pm (!!!), but I've told them to cancel. I'm off somewhere else. Problem is, the phone i have is a nokia phone, with the vodafone icon on it....DON'T sign up for this deal. I was told that others have the same problem......

I signed my Dad up fine to the same deal, you seem to have just been unlucky. Never had any problems with Vodafone.

I've had good service with Vodafone in the past, but this has been a disaster! I need my mobile phone - I can't do without it, to be honest!

They can make mistakes and some companies require you to call to actiivate them (not often but it happens sometimes), you would not have been happy if the sim had been lost in the post and someone else ran up calls on your bill.

If your not happy return it under the Distance Selling Rules. You may have to pay for any calls you made but you can cancel the contract as you have a legal cooling off period. However it's only 7 days so you need to do it NOW.

The exception to this is if was an upgrade, in that case the rules don't apply as it's acontinuation of a contract not a new one, but you said you just signed up, suggesting a new contract.

So what if it says vodafone on the phone, buses say OXO on them but they don't have them inside. It's just a bit of print.
The phone may be locked to Vodafone, and if you ask for an unlock code they may give it to you, or you may have a small charge depending how long you had the phone, or you can get it unlocked on a market.

I'm really not sure why you say don't sign up, no mobile network guarantees coverage everywhere (and certainly no-one guarantees coverage inside buildings) , and you have the DSR rules to return it under.

Your making it more complicated than it need be.

the sim card doesn't work. There is no service at all. I have now made 5 calls to Vodafone. It's a sim only deal. Apparently, they've got a job lot of ex-corporate mobile numbers that they are reallocating, so it seems, for the online website sim only deal.....but the numbers can't be activated yet!

    Now do you understand?

I can't make any calls, or receive calls, or make texts.

    Nada. Nothing.

I should've added that Vodafone works fine in my area. I've used Vodafone before....that's why I have a Vodafone issued Nokia.....wake up will you, instead of being patronising. Oxo lorries, my butt!

If you have cancelled whats the problem?

You have an old phone which is locked to Vodafone? Well thats a bit of bad luck - you could have been patient and allow them to fix the problem for you - especially as they already offered you free one month line rental.

And if your old phone was ex contract with Vodafone, you can ask for an unlock code from vodafone for free (its only free if you ask when you have completed a contract I think otherwise pay £15 or something to get it unlocked).

Sorry it looks like you don't understanding. Just because the phone says vodafone on it that does not mena it will only work on vodafone. It will work with most mobile networks, I wasn't being patronising I was offering an analogy, it's just a printed logo on it, it has very little bearing on the electronics inside.

You've had the sim TWO days, they are trying to help and they are even offering a month Free. I know it should work out of the box but Vodafone have a problem, they are trying to fix it, wheres the issue?

I was going to get a Vodafone sim only but now I might as well get a T Mobile deal instead!
  • Ah-ha....now they tell me that it's not an ex-corporate number, it's actually a faulty sim card. If I pop in the local store they will give me a new sim card and the first month's rental free.

29 hours on, and a result.

So much for on line shopping with Vodafone.....gnash, grrrrrrr,
  • I had the same problem but it was a free payg (they sent me another 2 lots and same thing happened each time. In the end they told me to go to a shop and they said, nothing to do with us we're vodafone retail! As they were free I just gave up!
