We got our camera at Aldi's and my DH thinks it's brilliant. Got it last year and we've had no problems at all with it. I think they have a really good deal on one at the minute. If i recall correctly it's about 8 million mega pixels and has loads of extras like ours, but it is a newer version. Hope this helps.

    Which camera?

I upgraded after breaking mine, but was so happy with the exilim that I went for another, just with a bit more to it. It was about £120. A VERY good camera especially for the price. You need a memory card with it but the battery was included with mine.

Joyous little thing. I love it. And it really is the size of a credit card, so don't keep it in your back pocket or you'll break it like I did by sitting on it. Doh!
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

For a budget digital camera, I will say, avoid Fuji and Olympus, they're using a more expensive XD card.. the same goes to Sony which is using memory stick. Go with the Canon or Nikon cameras, they're using a cheaper SD or CF card instead.

Last but not least, avoid those with digital zoom only .. look for at least one that has 3x optical zoom feature.

I wouldnt avoid a camera brand just becasue the memory cards are more expensive. Olympus cameras have very good lenses and take great photos.

The bit about avoiding digital zoom only, its a waste of time i feel. You mention you want to take photos at football matches, I have had a play with my dads 3x zoom and my 10x zoom the 3x zoom is pretty much a waste of time if your sat in the stands you cant get close enough and will wish you had bought a bigger zoom.

If you can strech your budget to £200 you can get the OLYMPUS SP-500 UltraZoom from pixmania, 6mp 10x zoom and you can either leave it on automatic or start playing with the settings and develop you photography skills. I like that option when light is low then automatic cameras will increase the shutter time to let more light in whihc then means you will get motion blur, with the manual option you can set the shutter speed to 1/15th of a second which is normally when motion blur becomes a problem take your pictures they be be dark but they will be clear and you brighten ten on the PC. I know your spending more but it is a much better camera than any of the point and shoot options you are looking at. If all you want is point and shoot then go for any of the above but if you want somthing that offer a bit more then the OLYMPUS SP-500 UZ is the way to go. I have the Olympus C770UZ which is the previous model. and the sp500 uses AA batteries

Hi Little John, the magic word here is "low budget" camera :) If you've a budget of £150, you surely don't want to go for a camera with expensive consumables (I'll say batteries & memory cards as consumable). If you're picking on Olympus or Fuji, you need to spare at least £30 for a 512MB XD card .. but if you are going for the more mainstream ones like Canon or Nikon which use a lesser expensive SD card, you could get a better camera with less to worry about the memory card...

It will be totally different when budget is not a constraint for you :)

If it's this camera you are looking at:
    http://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/canon-ixus-55.htm

then the battery is called: NB4L

    For example:
    http://www.picstop.co.uk/Digital-Camera-Battery/Canon-NB-4L-Digital-Camera-Battery---Equivalent

I haven't checked if this is the lowest price - worth doing some research although it looks low.

Before you buy double check that I have my info right - the above is just for pointers!!

you must be loaded if you treat memory cards as consumables, I transfer the photos to my hard drive once they are full or I want to use it again I definatly dont throw them away. non rechargable batteries are consumables as they are useless once used but it would be crazy to run a digital camera on non rechargables. I have 4 batteries for my olympus 2 genune olympus and 2 coppies the cppies cost less than normall rechargables off ebay so they arnt expensive. and a 512MB card is less than £20 not alot more expensive than a decent SD card.
Do you turn down a diesel car that will give better miles per gallon just becasue the fuel costs a couple of pence more?

I wouldn't bother with the spare battery for the Canon Ixus, the battery life on mine is superb and takes hardly any time to recharge.
