Do you agree with this statement, assuming it's kept in the fridge?
I reckon that the best before date only applies if the milk is unopened

If it smells ok then I'd use it whatever it said. If it didn't, I'd use it to make scones!
**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Nope - don't agree and don't do it eitherWe all evolve - get on with it0

Agreed - except I don't even give it 3 days.
Have found that UHT, as well as lasting longer unopened, also lasts a bit longer once opened. Ditto skimmed versus semi or full fat.0 -
I have used milk well after 3 days and I've not had a problem.
What makes you ask? Has someone told you to stick to this rule???0 -
Qualify what is meant by Milk?
Milk these days is homogonised rubbish. All the cream has been removed and sold on separately, and you are left with milky water.
Yes, milk of yester-year needed to be used within a few days. Now it lasts a good 12 days as it's been beaten to an inch of it's life.
There are different types of best before labels.
Best before x ( still usually fine after this date)
Use before x ( best not chance it afterwards)
Use before x after opening. ( best not cvhance it afterwards due to air exposure)0 -
As long as I don't get lumps of globulised iffy milk in my tea when I pour it in, I continue to use it. whatever it's sell by date was....I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

If anyone has Kefir grains they can put milk that is slightly off on the grains and the kefir is still good. Gone-off milk is also good to make soda bread, it reacts beautifully with bicarbonate. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

I ask because I think it doesn't taste quite right after 3 days, but no-one else seems to bother about it (my work colleagues, friends I visit).
They buy milk, open it, leave a few days. Then if they want to use it they sniff it and check the best before date. When really I think the important thing is when it was opened, not the best before date.0 -
No...i have kept unopened milk in the fridge past its use by date and found it ok. Sinff,taste...if its ok uses it,if it tastes a bit lactic, bin it.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I have kept milk for a week, used it and its been fine.
Three days doesn't seem very long to me tbh - one pint usually lasts me about 5 days with no problem. Having said that, I pay no attention to best before/use by dates as I've bought milk that day with a week long date & opened it and it's been bad.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0
