I sent 3 an email via their website 2 days ago about my price plan - in short, asking if any offers going etc. Right at the very top in big bold letters I put "PLEASE REPLY VIA EMAIL. DO NOT CALL ME. SHIFT-WORKER. THANKS!"
20:22, 3 ring my mobile. I reject it.
20:26, 3 ring my mobile. I let it ring. They leave a silent voicemail.
20:27, 3 ring my mobile. I let it ring. They leave another silent voicemail!
21:18 I get a text message from my Dad saying 3 just rung HIS mobile about "a very urgent matter" and demanding a land line number for me. He told them to take a long walk off a short pier, and hung up. (I love my dad
). The fact my landline is already on My3 obviously escaped whoever was trying to call...
The only place 3 could possibly have got my Dad's mobile number from is the 3Sync service that I used to use to backup my contacts list. I've never ever given it to them as an alternative contact number for my account. He's not even a 3 customer, and we don't live in the same house.
Incredible. I've just sent an email to executive.office@three.co.uk with a complaint about the whole matter. It's a shame they have the best 3G coverage where I live, otherwise I'd quite happily leave without a second thought.
Has anyone else ever had some interesting contact methods employed by 3?

Ask them where they got his number from, if its from a source that they are not allowed to use/share under data protection they should not have used it. Good reason for making a complaint.
Thinking about it, using data for a purpose other than intended is in DPA. So you could use that as your complaint. If that is where they got the number from and the terms did not state they would use the number for this reasonAlthough no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Indeed DC, that's pretty much one of the points I made in my email. I'm doubtful I'll actually receive a reply of course, but I feel better for writing it.

OK. They DID ring my landline, but it went to voicemail (no message left) as they have my "no house phone rings after 2000" number. The above is from my VoIP log ! So THREE calls on my mobile, FIVE to my landline and one to my Dad?! !!!!!!?Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

i also sent 3 an email inquiry asking about retention offers and asked them to email me as i'd be in meetings all day, have had about 8 calls to my mobile and the same to home number, 2 unintelligble messages than silent messages.....
dont they read the emails, or cant they make offers by email ??0 -
I left Three 3 months ago due to their poor quality in customers services and constant sales calls.
I would never email them. They're call centres are open quite early and quite late too (obviously due to the time difference between the countries!!) so even though you work shifts there'll be a time you can call.
Always call and that way you can negotiate a better deal which you'd never be able to do over email.
With regards to data protection, if you or your Dad feel they have abused it then you can exercise your right under the Act to ‘Prevent processing of your personal data for Direct marketing Purposes’ (section 11). http://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/faqs/data_protection_for_the_public.aspx And report it to the ICO under your Dad's name as it was his information which was used unsolicitedlyMinds are like parachutes - they only function when open.

Thanks for your responses chaps. I'm considering taking the matter further, because it's a gross breach of trust in my view. I'd love to know how they thought it'd be acceptable!
As for the email, shifts was one reason, but not having to talk to India was the other (perhaps more pressing) reason I didn't want to ring them. I find it impossible to negotiate with them as if it's not on the script, they just keep repeating themselves. It drives me nuts.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Reply from the Executive Office:
Essentially "p1ss off, we don't deal with customers." and they forwarded it to India to reply to. Brrrrilliant.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

What a fuss over nothing - you email them and want deals, they ring you despite your wishes trying to offer you something and you do not answer.
Now I have sent emails to t-mobile via the web screen and selected reply by email and they too opt to call me. Do I moan to them about it? No.
I mean if you want a deal, then the only way to negotiate is to talk to someone - no business in their right mind can afford to pay people to send emails back and forth trying to work out what deal they can or cannot offer.0
