vet prescriptions

I took my new puppy along to the the vet last week for her first check up and vaccination. It went fine and she is happy and healthy but it's been a while since I've dealt with a vet and I was a little flummoxed by her pitch when discussing certain things.
She was due to be wormed again last week so I thought I would discuss this with vet to determine which one would be best for her. In the end I didn't really get a balanced response, just a heavy handed reccomendation of the one she was being given (whether I liked it or not seemingly:rolleyes:)
She was scheduled for her next worm treatment appt at a later date but am I right in thinking that I can ask her for a prescription and then buy the wormer online?
I ask this because she charged me £12 for one treatment and I have looked up the brand she gave Mimi and it works out 98p a tablet?
Any advice would be welcomed

There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.

You certainly can, and even with the charge for the prescription it should work out much cheaper than buying from the vet. You should be able to get a fairly long lasting repeat prescription for something relatively innocuous like wormer.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

What does a prescription to be written by the vet normally cost ?
My dog's been prescribed Metacalm but I think I can buy it a lot cheaper online. So little money - so much time :mad:0 -
You can get Drontal - a veterinary strength, popular wormer without a prescription from online pet pharmacies. Just had a quick look and they're around the £1.60 mark but unless you're getting something else at the same time you'll need to find one that offers free p&p on all orders, not just over a certain amount. What does a prescription to be written by the vet normally cost ?

My vet charges £5 + vat for each item but it varies from vet to vet.0 -
I was just going to ask that!
But then I suppose by the time I get the prescription at her next appointment (which is next week) she will be due another dose so if I have to wait for it she will be behind.
May be better to just pay the big bucks for the next one but get the prescription and order online in good time for the next dose. There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.0 -

I can't remember exactly, (her treatment record hasn't been given to me yet) but she was also given a flea treatment that included a protection against lungworm. (or maybe it was in the wormer, eww I can't remember what she said now)
I've confused myself and I had so many questions, I barely had a chance to listen to the answers!
It will be clearer when we go next week and her records are ready to take home, then I can have a good readThere used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.0 -
What wormer was it then? Drontal is an ex prescription only drug, now it can be sold by suitably qualified persons such as pet pharmacies.
I normally use www.vetuk.co.uk (free delivery over £15) but have used bestpetpharmacy in the past with no problems, normally find vetuk that bit cheaper but bestpetpharmacy offer free delivery on the majority of orders so £1.86 delivered for 1 x Dog drontal. If you're spending over £15 then vetuk will probably work out cheaper.

It was milbemax.
thanks for that link and info

Milbemax does require a prescription but Drontal is just as good and is stocked by most if not all vets. Pet shop wormers ie ones off the shelf in the supermarket or petshop are definitely best avoided, same goes for flea treatments from pet shops/supermarkets. I believe milbemax is much more palatable than drontal (definitely in the case of cat tablets) but with a dog you can just hide it on a piece of sausage or cheese - cats aren't quite so easy

so if I manage to get hold of some drontal before her next dose is due do you think it will be ok to tell the vet I have wormer covered? There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.0
