I've been looking into the matter of adding memory to the Samsung R519, and Misco (one of the suppliers) advised that they cannot add the memory for you but they can supply it and it is perfectly alright for you to add it, provided that you don't damage the system in doing so.

The R519 comes with 1x1GB installed and there is one slot into which can take an extra either 1GB or 2GB SODIMM memory module. I'm not sure about this particular machine, but generally laptops either have a little hatch on the underside that you need to undo a tiny screw to open to get at the memory slots, or the slots are located under the keyboard so you have to find some sort of a secret latch to let you lift up the keyboard.

Misco quoted me their 2GB part, which is really a Crucial component (Crucial are a reputable memory specialist), and so I went to Crucial and it is £35.24 including VAT & free delivery. Their web site doesn't have the R519 listed, so I phoned to confirm it was the right part.

The Misco part no. is 153537, and the Crucial part no. is CT25664AC800.

You can also get cashback (Quidco, etc.) on purchases from Crucial.
Thank you SO much for that, I couldn't afford the upgrade in memory when I ordered this laptop but at some point in the future I plan on putting more memory in (It doesn't seem to need it at the moment but I'm sure at some point it will) at least now I know what I'm looking for and about how much it's likely to cost :)

So, to get the 2nd year, and you have to download a form and send it in between the 335th and 365th days following the date of your invoice.
There seems to me to be an inherent wish that people forget to do it, and also if you send it on the 365th day there is a good chance that there could be a gap in service.

This is where your mobile comes in handy. Once you have received the laptop etc; make a copy of invoice and put it in an envelope somewhere safe. Get your mobile out (or diary) and enter an entry on your mobile's calender (where the form is and to send it in) and make it give you a warning a day/week before. So when the 335th day approaches you have a reminder to send in the application for another year. Hope that makes sense. Naturally this will work if you still have your current mobile in a year's time.

Centerprise, the extra memory was only £30 but I just don't have a spare £30 right now (or when I ordered) I thought that maybe it would be very expensive to upgrade at a later date so I am very relieved to find out it's not going to cost a great deal more than that to do so at some point in the future.

thanks for this, i couldnt see any terms and conditions about this, although i did see that terms and conditions applied. where did you find this? on the positive it website? i didnt order from them based on this anyway as i didnt even realise the offer until a week after i already had my laptop! lol
i will look into it and if this is the case i will have to put a calander reminder on my phone for 335 days!!!!

nevermind i have found the form and printed it off, i will save the date in my phone., thank you so much for this i was wondering what the terms were i would probably not have notice this if you hadnt pointed it out, so thanks so much :)

have printed it off now, put it and my invoice in an envelope addressed to positive it and put the date reminder for a few days before 335. it is strange cos on my3 account it definately says valid to 2012 and on the sim card packaging it also says 24mg for upto 24months (terms and conditions apply) but i am all set now i just hope my phone doesnt break!
thank you again :)

Positive IT's http://www.homeaccessgrant.com/ homepage has a big pink box saying "Second year's broadband free, CLICK HERE, Terms and conditions apply", so I clicked on "Terms and conditions apply", which took me to another page including a link to "Complete the redemption form (available on website )", so I looked at the form, and it's there where the details are given.
I phoned them to confirm that was the case, because a friend (ie. lucinad) said that theirs had included it automatically; the person I spoke to said that had always been the arrangement, so my friend must have been mistaken.

Still waiting for a letter from DWP , first requested one the 18th Jan , confirming our CB entitlement.

A friend however has received her grant and took it to Currys only told that a pretty cheap looking Acer laptop was all they had , when she complained about the quality she was told "what are you complaining about , its free isn't it ".
I would have thought that a £528 grant would buy a descent computor.
How much of a mark-up are the companys making on these computors and can anyone tell what the best deal is ? Ideally we would like a Home PC not a laptop.

To be fair for that £528 you are getting a laptop, 12 months of Broadband at 3GB per month (roughly 120hrs surfing a month) more than enough for a child to do homework research. In most cases a years Anti-Virus, a technical phone line support service, free educational softaware, Microsoft office, years replacement for stolen laptops.

So not a bad deal in all, would cost you more if you went out and brought it all seperately.

For example tech help from PC World costs between 75p and a quid a minute :D

Microsoft Office 2007 on it's own costs 100 quid so it's a bloody good amounth you get for FREE!!
