Advice Please-Phone Not Working
Hi There,
I am hoping someone can give me some advice. Yesterday while walking to the bus stop, I was talking on my mobile, when I slipped and kind of went flying a bit. My mobile flew out of my hand and basically went into a puddle.
I only upgraded my phone in October. I have tried to dry out my phone but it is still not working. It is a Samsung Tocco Ultra. I did request insurance to be added back in November, with the first month being free but when I checked my online bills, there is no evidence of insurance.
Is there anything else anyone can advise me to do?

Where did you get the phone from?
Sometimes the insurance is completely seperate, and a seperate direct debit is taken for it. It's usually companies like Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u who do this though.0 -
Do you have a bank account that offers mobile phone insurance?Hi There,

Depending on the network, it might not show insurance on the invoice but its there. Did you get any insurance paperwork through the post?
Some networks offer emergency insurance cover but at a premium. However there are ways to claim but they are very immoral and bordering on illegal0 -
Hi, Thanks for the replies. I am with Orange. I pay my bill my direct debit, however I have just checked my bank statements and cannot see a directdebit for £6 which is what I was quoted for the insurance. I never got any paperwork through the post either. I had a lot of mail missing when the royal mail strikes were on.0

Hi
On your orange bill online/postal one do you see the sheet "Here's what you spent..." followed by "..and here's how you done it"?
On that page (usually page 2)
It'll say
Orange Care (non-VAT applicable)
Orange Care : 08 Dec - 07 Jan 6.00
If so your covered by Orange care, If not they didn't apply the insurance, However, You would have got an Orange Care document through the post that is a schedule of cover, Again if you didn't get this You are not covered.
You could ring them on 150 and ask, However it would show on your bill if your covered if not then unfortunately You are not.0 -
Check your house contents insurance as well. You may be covered, but may have a hefty excess which makes it un viable to claim.0

Thanks to you both. I have re checked my orange phone bill and there is nothing showing for Orange Care. I suppose I wont be able to argue with them over this as they will blame me for not checking, rightly so. But with xmas, having my mum over and both me and my son being ill with flu I just didn't think as I thought it was included in my bill.
I do have home contents insurance but my excess will be high so I suppose not worth it. Im so annoyed with mysedelf now, my contracts for 18 months.
I dont think orange will help If I rang them.
If I asked for the call to be traced regarding the insurance, do you think they will do it?
I really can't afford a new phone, Im really strugglying as it is, plus it's my sons 8th birthday in 6 weeks so need to try and save.0 -
You could ring up and query them, state you had asked for orange care insurance to be included and agreed on the £6 price with 1 month free, but on checking your latest bill it has still not be applied. Usually with orange with charges they look back 3 months, i.e. add-ons that are missing or wrongly applied, might cover insurance too. And see what response they give you.
You could always get a cheap PAYG phone and use that in the meantime. As your phone landed in water there is no way it will be repaired it will be a insurance only job.
If you bank with barclays do you have phone insurance with them?Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

the phone got wet yesterday so give it a couple of days to dry out fully
put it somewhere warm until tomorrow
even better lay it on a 'bed' of raw rice to help draw out the moisture0 -

I heard about raw rice, and leaving it on a towel on a radiator (do not wrap it in the towel)
After a few days try and turn it on. Turning it on with water inside might fry it.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

I will email orange and query the insurance. Hopefully the lady i spoke to would of added the details regarding me wanting to add on insurance to my file/details. I had insurance with phones 4 u prior to that but as i upgraded, i wanted to have the insurance with orange which is why i cancelled with phones 4 u. I have never had to claim before for anything.
I bank with Halifax. My friend told me, even if i did have insurance or got it, no company covers mobiles damaged through water.
My brother also told me to give it a few days to dry out, I will defo try the rice, can I just stick it in the packet of rice? Thanks for all your replies and help.0
