I haven't found one that doesn't rust in the sea yet but usually buy them from ebay or from poundstretchers although it is a bit hit and miss if they have them in stock. In addition to searching for half-check, try a search for martingale collars as they are also known as this. There are a number of ebay sellers who sell the leather half check collars made to measure and they are fairly inexpensive.

My rottie snapped his flexi lead yesterday which was a bit of a heart stopping moment especially as it was only a few months old, was the giant XL one and cost about £25. these dogs are going to bankrupt me!

Rev - a staff snapping it is not a good advertisement, is it? Hmmmmmm Zara is 39kg and pulls like a horse..... LOL

    Thanks again everyone.

It didn't snap when he was pulling, the pup somehow got it off the older dog and they decided to play tug with it, that's how it snapped. So you should be fine, my friend has a huge gsd and she uses one, no snapping yet.

Ali - thanks but as per my previous post, do not have PayPal to use eBay... :0

Rev, you got badddddddddddddd dogs LOL

Re flexi leads - the tape ones are fine, at least you can see them, The very thin ones should be banned as you see people with dogs far away from them and you can not see they are on those thin leads ... I tripped over those several times and Zara run into one as well....

PAH have stopped doing them? Oh smeg! This is the one I use for Kira so I'll have to keep an eye out or treat myself to the snazzy chain one above :) I usually take it off her at home and she has an "indoor" collar with no chain - so just your boxstandard clip collar as when she trots about the house with the chain one she wakes the baby :rotfl:
Both collars have a tag on just in case she escapes so worry not ;)

gr, have you thought about using a body harness on Zara and seeing if she pulls less? Mum's used haltis before but preferred the body harness as she had more control over the dog - and also the dog seemed to be more responsive to commands. I know what you mean about the thin leads, you can never see them in time so you fall over them.

My PAH still did them a couple of months back when Storm outgrew her large sized one.

I got one with no clip, but the same nylon material as that one off a shop on ebay, very cheap and it has lasted years.

(I don't trust the clips either)

My PatH only has the ones with a clip .. and I do not like those... surprised I am not alone though... waw, so many of us do not like the "clip" ones...

Thin flexi leads should be banned.....I meant it - when a dog runs into one of thopse.. extended between one dog and his/her humen.. the poor dog can get furt. The !"tape" ones, wide ones are fine but the thin ones should be banned full stop grrrr

I do have a harness for Zara but do nto find it comfortable hot her or myself to be honest... I CAN hold her on a lead (although she pulls) and she was pulling the same on a harness so no difference.

Sorry but was not asking for advice on pulling (that is another matter) just about specific collar and lead - thanks a lot everyone.
  • Hi Craft do the collars you are talking about with out the clips - there is a choice clip or full webbing. in different weights & sizes.

they also do the half check with a chain & also half check webbing which are really good

unfortunately i cant find their website - sorry!

if i come across it il post up!

i have ordered from them previously & they are really good.
