    No probably not, with SMI you have to wait 13 weeks for that to kick in.

    No but you can hardly expect the tax payer to fork out a grand a month to help someone buy their house surely? Can't he negotiate payments with the mortgage provider? Switch to an interest only mortgage maybe?

    He doesn't need to be, obviously it's impossible to tell from the information available, but he may not be in remunerative work.

    Basically - in remunerative work claim NTCs, not in remunerative work claim JSA.

    I don't know much about tax credits so I don't know how they would go about establishing eligibility with regard to averaging numbers of hours etc, so I could be talking rubbish. But it's an option nevertheless :)

    i think he is on interest only. mortgage co wont do anything as his figures now suck.

    and yes, they should pay. he's paid in all his life, unlike the vikki pollards who start firing out kids at 15.

    plus, if he loses his house, they'll have to rehouse him and pay for it anyway.

    he's had work on and off, but it's a bit thin on the ground and not looking any brighter.

    plus his savings are all but gone so is starting to worry.

    It will be a different rate to what he has as its a rate set by government not what his mortgage is.

    And no the government don't have to rehouse him, there are far more people needing a council house other than a healthy family who work.
    Most they would get is emergency accomodation till they find another place to stay themselves, of which they would have to pay a deposit and first months rent too

    A grand a month interest free?? :eek::eek::eek:

    I take it he is still in a fixed rate deal then, that can't be at the current rate?

    Maybe he should sell up if he can't afford the mortgage, then rent privately?

    Jesus! a grand a month in interest, what's the house worth?

    Maybe the house insurance can give him money towards the house due to not having any work? I have a friend who signs on for some insurance pay-out, she was a sparkie and lost her job in the recession.
