So the fact they don'thave access to that much cash makes no difference? Paypal is a ligitimate option so the OP is perfectly entitled to use it, just because the seller isn't happy about it should make no difference, they signed up to ebay and have to accept the rules they put in place, if they don't then they should sell elsewhere

That rule is only in place so Paypal gets a slice of the pie.
Maybe the buyer should have asked if it was possible to pay by paypal & collect the goods.
If the seller accepts paypal, hes taking a stupid risk.

You seem to be missing the point the buyer doesn't have to ask. Ebay rules you have to accept paypal if the seller doesn't wish to they should be selling elsewhere or they take the risk and hope the buyer will pay cash.

yes if the seller excepts paypal he's taking a risk. But he lists on ebay you follow ebay rules if not sell elsewhere

No, best to re read the rules ALL sellers must now offer paypal as a payment offer on ALL items except those in the motor vehicle categories. No exceptions no way out.

Re read the rules fella (or madam if we are being PC). Paypal has to be accepted on ALL items except cars/motor bikes etc

If the seller stated s/he wouldn't accept paypal then that is breaking ebay rules and can get listing pulled and accounts banned in extreme cases

what rubbish, i don't care what rules i agreed to when i signed upto ebay if i'm selling £580 quids worth of anything i'll tell you what payment method i'll accept, if you don't like it or it upsets ebay tough, let ebay sue me for breach of contract (unlikely) hit the neg button if it makes you feel better (i'll survive it i'm sure) but given the exposure to fraud that accepting paypal on collected items brings i'm afraid it's my way or the highway and the buyer and ebay can cry all they want to it's my product which i bought with my hard earned cash and if you want it you accept my payment terms, simple as that!

No one can force you to sell but of course you do agree to ebay terms when you list. If you don't like their terms then surely it is best to just not use them, maybe try Gumtree or small ads instead. Otherwise you are going to end up eventually with a lot of fees to pay and no sale and probably no account either.

I have chosen not to use ebay for high end goods that I cannot post, that is my decision others choose to sell and take the risk or set up arangements where they believe they would be bale to persue a buyer through small claims. It has always struck me as odd that people moan about ebay and say how they don't like it but then carry on using it as it is so good and there is no where else they can sell their goods.

So your happy to lose £40 in FVF everytime a buyer refuses to give you cash! As that is what could happen Yes one Neg may not effect you but a couple of times with bad DSRs and your account wont be long around.

I always find it strange and a little pathetic that people moan about the rules a continue to use ebay even if it will end up costing them money then start throwing a Paddy when it doesn't go there way.

Yes you can demand whatever you like but any person with an ounce of common sense would realise if they are unwilling to follow the rules in a way that could cost them money that maybe they should look at another selling venue
